The Raiders are scheduled to host Waupaca in Great Northern Conference play tonight, Thursday, at about 7 p.m. as part of a girls/boys doubleheader, weather permitting. They’ll be right back at it Friday at 7 p.m., hosting Marshfield in a non-conference make-up date from a Nov. 22 postponement.

Medford will then get a little time off before traveling northwest to face the Frederic-based Burnett Blizzard Co-op on Dec. 22.

Hatchets 12, Raiders 2

Down a couple of bodies, the Raiders did what they could to hang in for awhile Thursday, but Tomahawk broke things open midway through the second period and then slammed the door with a fivegoal third period in a 12-2 Great Northern Conference win over Medford.

It was just a 3-1 game until a Zach Friske goal 8:58 into the second period seemed to open the flood gates for the Hatchets. Friske and Logan Seymour both notched hat tricks for Tomahawk. Seymour had two assists while Friske added one. Rex Reilly and Jonah Dickens both had two goals and assist for Tomahawk, who improved to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the GNC at the time.

Medford played without their top defenseman, Cameron Bull, due to injury as well as forward Mason Harris, who was out sick that night.

The Hatchets wasted no time in jumping ahead, getting Friske’s unassisted goal 53 seconds in and the first goal from Dickens just 46 seconds later.

But the Raiders settled into the game after that and cut the deficit in half with Gowey’s unassisted power play goal at 9:38. That’s how the period ended with Tomahawk holding a 12-5 edge in shots.

Reilly got his first goal 2:35 into the second period to make it 3-1. After Friske’s goal, Seymour and Friske scored 1:33 apart to open up a 6-1 lead. Gowey put in his second goal of the night at 12:55 with an assist from Searles, but Seymour’s second goal of the period just 52 seconds later pushed the lead back to five.

Albers stopped 40 of 52 shots for Medford, who went one for two on power plays in the loss. Andrew Samundsen picked up the win in net for Tomahawk with 10 saves. The Hatchets were two of five on power plays.
