Athens girls are still undefeated

The Rib Lake Lady Redmen had the unfortunate circumstance of playing back-to-back home games against Division 5 No. 4 ranked Athens and No. 5 ranked Edgar. The outcome was not good for Rib Lake. Edgar easily defeated Rib Lake, 6923, on Friday behind senior Reagan Borchardt’s game high 17 points and 21 rebounds. Athens then dominated Rib Lake, 71-17, on Tuesday.

Athens is off to a 6-0 record this season. Athens also easily defeated Wausau Newman, 59-15, on Friday at home. Junior Sophia Coker tallied a game high 21 points and 14 rebounds for the Bluejays.

Edgar had a rematch of last season’s Division 5 sectional semifinal against Wisconsin Rapids Assumption on Tuesday. The Wildcats again lost to the Royals, 46-34, on the road. Assumption is ranked No. 2 in Division 5 this week behind No. 1 ranked Blair-Taylor.

Tigers down Raiders

Stratford’s girls basketball squad defeated Marathon, 44-34, on Tuesday at home. The Tigers improve their record to 3-1 this season while the Red Raiders fall to 2-4. Senior Tessa Berg led Stratford with 12 points and senior Lauren Kraus paced the team with nine rebounds.

The Tigers upended the Prentice Lady Buccaneers, 43-29, Friday on the road. Berg led Stratford with 14 points while Kraus secured a double- double with 11 points and 20 rebounds.

Marathon dominated Chequamegon, 64-23, on Friday in Park Falls. Individual Marathon player statistics were not available.

The Athens girls basketball squad plays at Straford at 7:15 p.m. this Friday, Dec. 9, and at home against Colby on Monday, Dec. 12.

Edgar plays at home against Prentice on Monday, Dec. 12.

Marathon plays at Rib Lake this Friday, Dec. 9.

Stratford plays at home against Athens this Friday, Dec. 9, and then at Loyal on Tuesday, Dec. 13.
