Reimann wins 100 fly in Medford’s return to pool

MEDFORD BOYS SWIMMING

The Medford Raiders got a win from Mason Reimann while making their return to the pool Tuesday in an 8557 loss at Tomahawk.

The Great Northern Conference dual meet was Medford’s first boys swim competition since the 2021 sectional meet. The Raiders did not field a team in 202122 due to low numbers and nine of 10 swimmers made their Medford debuts in Tuesday’s meet as did new head coach Terry Werner.

The win for Reimann, a sophomore, came in the 100yard butterfly with a respectable first time of 1:17.45. He was the only entrant in the race, so as long as he finished legally he was going to win. But, it was a highlight for Reimann and the Raiders to build from in their opening meet.

Reimann also led Medford with a second-place time of 2:45.1 in the 200-yard individual medley, while senior teammate Dylan Kraemer, the one Raider who was on the 2020-21 team, finished third at 3:09.99. They trailed Tomahawk’s Zach Hanse, who won in 2:16.12.

Kraemer got second-place points in the 500-yard freestyle with his time of 7:20.83. Hatchet Bruce Peetz won in 6:31.87. Senior Ervin Ulrich took second in the 100yard backstroke in 1:45.78, trailing Tomahawk’s Trey Morrison (1:16.27). Freshman McKay Gurney picked up six points with third-place times of 2:49.39 in the 200-yard freestyle and 1:33.49 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Freshman Logan Rouiller was fourth in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:55 and Hudson Briggs was fifth for Medford in 3:18.36. Jimmy Murillo Aguirre led Medford in the 50-yard freestyle by taking third in 33.89 seconds, while Roger Mann was fourth in 36.34 seconds and Silas Briggs was fifth in 37.49 seconds.

Mann added a fourth-place time of 1:25.17 in the 100-yard freestyle, while Silas Briggs got the fifth-place point at 1:26.87.

Medford got 18 of its points in the relays.

Murillo Aguirre, Gurney, Reimann and Kraemer teamed up to take second in the 200-yard medley relay at 2:21.43, while Ulrich, Hunter Briggs, Rouiller and Hudson Briggs were third in 2:47.49. Tomahawk won in 1:59.64.

Reimann, Murillo Aguirre, Ulrich and Rouiller swam the 200-yard freestyle relay in 2:04.51, while Mann, Silas Briggs, Hunter Briggs and Hudson Briggs were third in 2:35.9. The Hatchets won in 1:50.16. To finish the meet, Tomahawk won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 4:34.85. Ulrich, Rouiller, Gurney and Kraemer were second in 5:07.61, followed by Hunter, Hudson and Silas Briggs and Mann in 6:14.13.

Medford hosts Shawano in GNC competition today, Thursday, at 5:30 p.m. and will be at Antigo on Dec. 8.
