Cadott’s basketball season kicked off for with a three-game week for the girls, in match-ups with non-conference opponents.
Nov. 15 vs. Eleva-Strum non-conference (W 66-25)
Hosting Eleva-Strum, Cadott began a dominant week of winning.
Eleva was no match for Cadott, as the Hornets outscored the visitors, 34-11, by halftime. Cadott continued the scoring in the second half of the game and went on to claim a 66-25 victory.
“Good start to the season, the girls were excited to have a game,” said coach Dave Hazuga.
Racking up 24 points for the Hornets, was senior Elly Eiler, with three of those points coming from long range. Senior Lauryn Goettl was right behind, with 22 points. Junior Emma Kowalczyk came next, with 6 points, followed by sophomore Kasey Moldrem, who knocked down a threepointer, finishing with 5 points.
Freshman Taylor Hager also got on the board, scoring 3 points, while senior Eva Enestvedt and junior Bradee Burish added 2 points each.
“We got a lot of experience back and that’s a good thing, but we definitely see what we need to work on,” said Hazuga.
Nov. 17 vs. New Auburn non-conference (W 67-19)
Two days later, it was off to New Auburn, where the Trojans struggled to put up points on the board. Cadott scored 31 points alone in the first quarter, then added another 36 in the second, to reel in a 67-19 win.
“We got off to great start and played pretty good,” said Hazuga. “Kept the pace up no matter who was on the floor.”
Goettl again came up big for the Hornets, scoring 23 points, including a three-point shot, while Eiler again nailed a three, finishing with 21 points. Kowlaczyk also connected from three-point land, ending with 15 points.
Hager followed that with 4 points, and senior Morgan Moldrem and K. Moldrem each came up with 2 points.
“We looked a little sharper than the first game and that’s a good sign,” said Hazuga.
Nov. 18 vs. E.C. Immanuel non-conference (W 66-24)
To end the week, E.C. Immanuel came to call on the Hornets, but it was just about no contest, as Cadott took the win, 66-24.
“They got off to a good start and we had to adjust,” said Hazuga. “Then we went on a run in [the] first half.”
Eiler knocked down four shots from beyond the arc, coming up with 24 points, while Goettl also got a three, ending with 19 points. Kowlaczyk also added a shot from longrange, for 11 points on the night.
Enestvedt, Burish and Hager all chipped in with 2 points each.
“We had active hands on defense and we made some shots,” said Hazuga. “Three games in a week, was good for us.”
