It all came down to the biggest race of the year for the Cadott cross country team, as they hosted the WIAA Sectional competition at Whispering Pines Golf Course Oct. 22. There, amid the best runners the area has to offer, the Hornets gave it their all, with the goal of qualifying for State action.

“Weather was awesome, thus ideal conditions,” said coach Tom Weiss.

Although each athlete performed at a high level, Cadott teams did not make the cut, with the boys finishing seventh and the girls in sixth. Individually, it was another story, as senior Peter Weir will make his second trip to State.

Weir finished the day in third place, with a time of 17:13.9. “Peter ran well, along with the entire boys team,” said Weiss. “Several PRs from the team.”

Following that up, was freshman Saibyn Will, for 33rd (19:17.3), while sophomore Ewan Weir was a few steps behind in 39th (19:43.2). Senior Dawson Webster came next for the Hornets, in 72nd (20:51.3) and freshman Gryphen Lindeman placed 80th (21:15.4).

Senior Jacob Rowe placed 94th (21:45.8) and junior Senior Jake Rowe kept pace for Cadott, on familiar ground, as his team played host to Sectional competition Oct. 22.

Sage Handrick rounded out the boys side in 99th (21:59.7).

For the girls, freshman Iszy Sonnentag crossed the finish line in 15th (22:12.6) and freshman Josie Roth was right behind, for 19th (22:29.4). Junior Jaycee Stephens was only a fews steps behind them for 22nd (22:41.7), followed by sophomore Cortney Weggen in 42nd (23:43.7).

Sophomore Lyla Weggen followed that up with 45th (23:56), while sophomore Mia Weggen was 57th (24:30.8) and freshman Marley Mengel placed 66th (25:02.4).

“Girls gave it their all but came up short, great effort from all runners,” said Weiss.

Weir will now look to make podium for the Hornets at the State meet Oct. 29, at Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.
