It was a perfect night for football Aug. 26, as Lake Holcombe played host to non-conference opponent Gilman. Unfortunately, with a few players out, the Chieftains weren’t up to full strength.
The Pirates capitalized on that, scoring 22 unanswered points in the first quarter and 14 in the second. By the third quarter, Lake Holcombe rallied their defense to hold Gilman to a touchdown in the third and fourth quarters, but still took a 50-0 shutout loss to open the season.
“I am happy how we hung in there and battled with not having many kids able to play,” said coach Brandon Baldry. “Non-conference games are a chance for us to get things figured out and to get everyone healthy for when we start our conference schedule.”
