Storm brings quick end to annual JV meet

The last track and field competition at Raider Field for the 2022 season was a short one Thursday as a late afternoon thunderstorm put an early end to Medford’s annual JV meet.

Several field events were underway at the time of the stoppage. On the track, all that was completed was the girls 3,200-meter relay, the boys and girls high hurdles races and the girls 100-meter dash. The boys 100-meter dash was in progress when the meet ended.

Medford’s Brooke Rudolph held first place in the girls shot put competition with a toss of 28 feet, 0.75 inches, more than 2 feet ahead of second-place Eva Jaroski of Wausau West. Makayla Motte was in eighth place at 21-3.5 and Kenya Mann was in 15th at 20-2.5. Stacy Stolp was third in the girls long jump at 13-2.5, just 1.5 inches behind leader Emmy Skogstad of Wausau West. Ashley Hernandez was 11th for Medford at 10-2. Hannah Fleegel held fourth place in the triple jump with a season-best distance of 27-8.

Fleegel also led the Raiders in the 100-meter dash results. She placed 11th in 15.73 seconds. Myah Smith won her heat and took 18th overall at 16.49 seconds. Osiris Medina was 27th at 18.09 seconds.

Medford’s Adam Kowalski was leading the boys pole vault competition, along with Mosinee’s Mason Pompo. Both were at 8 feet. Raider Evan Paul, competing in the event for the first time this spring, was second in the triple jump with a distance of 33-10.5, Jose Herrera was third at 33-3.75 and Paxton Rothmeier was fourth at 31-10.5. West’s JJ Drews held the lead in that event at 35-11.

Cory Lindahl cleared 4-10 in the high jump and held fifth place. Itsael Medina was 10th at 4-4. Will Haavisto held 14th place in the discus with a throw of 73-1, while Jude Stark was in 20th place at 65-2.

Rothmeier (22.34) and Paul (22.6) placed third and fourth in the 110-meter high hurdles, competing in those events for the first time. They trailed Wausau West’s Joe Jaroski, who won in 18.61 seconds, and Rhinelander’s Dresden Klaver (21.27).
