Rainbow gymnasts earn some solid scores in AAU state meet at Onalaska

A dozen members of Medford’s Rainbow Gymnastics Club competed last weekend in the 2022 Wisconsin AAU Championships, which were held at the Omni Center in Onalaska.

The gymnasts all competed individually as no level had the required three entrants to create a team score.

In Level 6, Raylin Rothmeier earned a second-place overall finish in 13-year-old age group with 34.95 all-around points. Madison Loewenhagen of Ultimate Performance Gymnastics from Lake Hallie was the only one of the group’s nine gymnasts to outscore her, earning 36.75 points. Rothmeier had a second-place score of 8.275 on the uneven bars, a thirdplace score of 9.15 on the floor exercise, a third-place score of 9.1 on the balance beam and a seventh-place score of 8.425 on the vault.

Veronica Mateer was second out of four gymnasts in Level 7’s 14-year-old age group. She totaled 32.25 points to trail Brianna Meyer of Tumble Tyme Gymnastics from Beaver Dam. Mateer had the top beam score at 8.55, tied Saylee Hebert of the Eau Claire YMCA for first on the vault at 8.95 and was third on floor (7.9) and bars (6.85).

Kyla Krause scored 26.675 all-around points to finish behind Sarah Simons (33.925) from Wildcard Gymnastics of Brookfield in the 16-year-old open optionals competition. Her outing included an 8.425 on floor, an 8.05 on vault and a 7.2 on bars. Kate Malchow was in the 17-year-old group and placed third with 30.8 points. She took second on bars with a 7.075 and added scores of 8.225 on floor, 8.0 on beam and 7.5 on vault.

In Level 3, Ruby Holtman was third out of 12 8-year-olds with her total of 34.5 points. She wasn’t far behind champion Ella Dahlke of Gymsport (35.025). Holtman was second behind Dahlke’s 8.5 on the beam with an 8.425, took second behind Gymsport’s Amiyah Knoblock’s 9.225 with a 9.025 on floor and was fourth on vault (9.0) and bars (8.05).

Olivia Schaefer was another thirdplace age group finisher. She competed in Level 5’s 11-year-old group and earned 33.15 all-around points. Out of six entrants, Schaefer won the beam at 8.575, took second on vault with an 8.925, just 0.05 points behind Lily James of Stateline Family YMCA of Beloit, and was fourth on floor (8.475) and bars (7.175).

In Level 2, Adalynn Foster was fourth out of 24 gymnasts in the 10-year-old age class with 35.85 points. That included a first-place finish on vault with a 9.5, a seventh-place score of 8.475 on bars and ninth-place scores of 8.825 on beam and floor. Nine-year-old Lillian Nemitz-Coleman was 19th out of 27 gymnasts in her age group with a total score of 33.625 that included an 8.85 on vault, an 8.75 on beam, an 8.5 on bars and a 7.525 on floor.

Mackinley Mueller was the ninthplace finisher among the 13 9-year-olds in Level 4. Her 8.6 on the beam was good for fifth. She added an 8.625 on the floor, an 8.45 on vault and a 6.725 on bars to score 32.4 all-around points.

Rainbow had two Xcel Silver competitors. At age 12, Alyssa Doriot placed 10th out of 11 gymnasts. Her total of 33.875 points included a third-place score of 8.9 on vault, an 8.775 on bars, an 8.475 on floor and a 7.725 on beam. Lydia Schaefer was 12th out of 16 gymnasts in the 10-year-old age class with an all-around score of 34.1. She was consistent with an 8.7 on floor, an 8.65 on bars, an 8.4 on beam and an 8.35 on vault.

Sophie Koester was one of 23 gymnasts in the 12-year-old age class of the Xcel Gold competition. She earned an 8.8 on floor, an 8.35 on vault, an 8.075 on bars and a 7.6 on beam to finish 17th in the allaround standings with 32.825 all-around points.
