Grunseth is top archer in Gilman shoot; locals dominate the 3-D shoot

Gilman Schools welcomed 339 student archers to their Feb. 12 National Archery in the Schools Program shoot on Saturday, Feb. 12, 93 of which also competed in the 3-D shoots. Many of those from the Gilman and Medford clubs had great success in the shoot.

In the bullseye shoot, Gilman junior Casey Grunseth hit the 10-spot on 25 of his 30 shots and earned the top score of the day among all archers with a 294 out of a possible 300. He won the high school boys title by one point over Tad Weiss of Cadott and two points over Medford’s Landen Viergutz.

Medford sophomore Hailey Reilly shot a 290 with 23 10-point shots to win the high school girls championship, two points ahead of Raider junior Kirsten Weix and Kamryn Poehls, a senior from Cadott. Medford’s Jenna Wickersheim was fourth with a 285 and Gilman’s Tatum Weir placed sixth with 283 points.

Medford finished second in the high school team standings with 3,321 total points, while Gilman was third with 3,228. Cadott won with 3,402.

The standings were similar in the middle school rankings. Cadott won with 3,184 points, while Medford (3,081) and Gilman (2,856) were second and third. Among top local finishers for the boys were Gilman’s Dawson Robinson, who was sixth (273) and Medford’s Ashton Behling (270) and Brody Peche (267), who were ninth and 11th. Haley Wesle of Medford was sixth in girls competition with 267 points and Gilman’s Reece Weir was ninth with 261.

Dylann Brogan of Marshfield was the boys champion with a score of 287, while Eleanor Paulsen of St. Patrick’s Catholic in Sparta was the girls champion with a 276.

Gilman’s Colton Lang was the boys elementary champion with a 267, while Medford’s Bentley Cooley got into the top five with a 238.

Local shooters dominated the top of the 3-D standings.

Wickersheim (285) and Weix (279) were the top high school girls, while Tatum Weir (271) was fifth and Gilman’s Kiersten Webster (268) was sixth. Wickersheim was the top scorer overall.

Viergutz shot a 284 to earn the overall boys championship, while Behling was the middle school champion with a 280 and Peche (261) was second. Grunseth was fourth among high school boys with a 275 and Medford’s Aidan Ball was a point behind in sixth. Gilman’s Reece Weir (261) and Medford’s Kadence Weix (253) were the top two middle school girls. Gilman’s Lang (260) and Wyatt Stephens (248) and Medford’s Cooley (220) were second through fourth among elementary boys. Medford won the middle school team title 1,516-1,468 over Gilman and took the high school title 1,657-1,619 over the Pirates, while Marshfield (1,522) was third. The local summary follows:
