Multiple matches awaited the Cadott volleyball squad, with a packed schedule over the week.

Sept. 21 vs. Bloomer conference (L 3-1)

First up on the week, was a match at Bloomer. Cadott started slow on the night, dropping the first set, 25-20, as well as the second set, 25-23. The Hornets rallied in the third set for a 25-22 victory, but couldn’t pull out the win, with the fourth and final set going to Bloomer, 25-20.

Sept. 23 vs. Thorp conference (L 3-0)

Next up, Cadott took on Thorp on the Hornets’ home court and again couldn’t come up with the offense needed to reel in the win. The sets went to Thorp, 25-16, 25-19 and 25-21.

“We changed things up a bit coming into this match and just didn’t gel like we normally do,” said coach Lynn Schreiner. “We’re going to take this as a learning opportunity and move forward.”

Senior Olivia Goodman finished the night with 10 kills and 8 digs, while junior Elly Eiler recorded 10 kills, 6 assists and 14 digs.

Sept. 25 vs. Medford Invitational (L 8-2)

To end the week, the Hornets then traveled to Medford to face off against four tough competitors.

First up, was Three Lakes, with Cadott dropping the nonconference sets, 25-22 and 25-17. Junior Lauryn Goettl added 7 kills, 8 assists and 21 digs, and Eiler had 7 kills, 6 assists and 3 blocks. Goodman also chipped in with 6 kills.

The Hornets’ next non-conference opponent was Owen-Withee, where Cadott saw success, taking both sets, with 25-20 and 25-9 victories.

Goodman notched 6 kills, 3 digs and 2 aces during the sets, with Goettl finishing with 4 kills, 3 aces and 9 assists. Junior Laken Ryan racked up 10 digs in the sets.

It was then the host team’s turn, as Medford met the Hornets in a non-conference clash. Medford would walk away with the sets, 25-21 and 25-19.

Sophomore Emma Kowalczyk came up with 6 kills and 4 digs, while Goettl had 4 kills, 8 assists, 16 digs and 2 aces. Eiler added 5 kills, 5 assists and 6 digs, and Ryan again recorded 10 digs.

The last match of the day came against conference rival Stanley-Boyd, with the sets going to the Orioles, 25-21 and 25-12.

Goettl led with 6 kills, 4 assists, 9 digs and 2 blocks. Sophomore Makenna Harel added 7 digs and junior Julia Sedlacek had 6.

“We played competitively against some good teams this weekend,” said Schreiner. “Our serve receive came around this weekend, which kept us in many sets and now we need to build on that moving forward.”
