Edgar, Stratford post home football wins

Edgar’s football team bounced back from a loss to Stratford with a dominating 36-0 home win against Iola-Scandinavia on Friday during Parent’s Night.

Wildcats head coach Jerry Sinz was pleased with how both the offense and defense performed against the Thunderbirds.

“We played excellent team defense in earning the shut out as Mattison Butt, Ayden Weisenberger, Jordan Bunkelman, Everet Brehm, Brady Stencil, Karter Butt and Keghan Hartway led our team,” Sinz said. “Offensively, the entire offensive line did an outstanding job as Karter Butt ran for 233 yards and two touchdowns and Ayden Weisenberger added 80 yards and two touchdowns.”

Edgar held a considerable advantage against Iola-Scandinavia, 358 to 143, in total offensive yards. Mattison Butt was the Wildcats’ top defensive player with five solo tackles, an assisted tackle and a pass deflection. Edgar, 2-1, plays at Colby, 3-0, this Friday, Sept. 10, in a game that could possibly decide who wins the Marawood Conference championship this season.

Stratford’s football team blasted Manawa, 47-6, on Friday at home in its first Central Wisconsin Conference-Large (CWC) game this season.

Senior Kaden Griesmer led the Tigers in rushing with 116 yards and two touchdowns, while senior Raife Smart added 80 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Junior Braeden Schueller completed two of three passes for 85 yards and one touchdown, which was a 47 yard strike to Smart. Senior Devin Ulrich added one catch for 38 yards.

Senior Noah Barrett paced Stratford’s defense with nine tackles. Ulrich contributed six tackles while senior Dillon Kirsch, junior Connor Weigel and junior Ryan Becker had five tackles each.

Stratford, 3-0, plays at home this Friday, Sept. 10, against Shiocton in another CWC-Large battle.
