Four ‘Jays land at top of North

Four Athens softball players were awarded first team all-Marawood North Conference this season, after the Bluejays shared the conference title with the Phillips Loggers.

Athens senior catcher Shauna Belter, junior pitcher Siarra Hart and sophomore centerfielder Elle Gauerke were each unanimous first team all-conference selections. Freshman third baseman Addison Lavicka also made first team all-conference.

Phillips also had four players who made first team all-conference. They are senior Rachel Callow, juniors Jada Eggebrecht and Jensen Weik and sophomore Megan DeLeasky. Blake Edwards of Phillips was awarded Marawood North Conference coach of the year and Eggebrecht as the conference player of the year.

A pair of Chequamegon juniors, Hailey Minnema and Jasmine Schmidt, also made first team all-conference this sea- son.

Athens senior Grace Johnson and freshmen Sophia and Sydney Coker and Jazelle Hartwig each were awarded second team all-conference. Bluejays senior Autumn Westfall and freshman Paige Westby received honorable mention allconference this spring.

Marawood South

Auburndale and Wisconsin Rapids Assumption both had three players make first team all-Marawood South Conference this season. The three Auburndale players are seniors Kaitlyn Kundinger and Hailey Grimm and sophomore Ashlyn Grimm. The three Assumption players are senior Sammy Nelson and sophomores Ava Schill and Cristin Casey.

Assumption head coach Charlie Nelson was named Marawood South Conference coach of the year and Schill as the conference player of the year.

Edgar junior Skylee Manecke and freshman Makayla Wirkus were both unanimous first team all-Marawood Conference South selections this spring, along with Marathon senior Lyndsay Pintor. Wausau Newman senior Angela Donath also made first team all-conference this year.

Marathon senior Andrea Seymour received second team all-conference, as did Edgar freshman Morgan Streveler and sophomore Reagan Borchardt. Stratford senior Maria Schoenfuss and sophomore Bailey Linzmaier received honorable mention all-conference this spring, along with Marathon juniors Jada Prihoda and Allison Wokatsch. Edgar junior Karlin Lipinski and sophomore Leah Davis also were honorable mention all-conference.


AWESOME FRESHMAN- Edgar freshman pitcher Makayla Wirkus was one of the best players in the Marawood South Conference this season. She helped the Wildcats to a second-place finish in the Marawood South, and therefore she was awarded unanimous first team all-conferencethis season.STAFF PHOTO/CASEY KRAUTKRAMER
