Two ‘Cat relays seeded first in D-3 state meet

A pair of Edgar boy relay teams are seeded No. 1, and another one is second, heading into this week’s WIAA Division 3 state track and field championships. The Edgar girls 4x100-meter relay team is also seeded first in the state. Division 3 field and running events start at 11 a.m. this Thursday, June 24, at UW-La Crosse.

The Wildcats’ 4x100-meter relay ran the fastest time of 44.01 seconds in Division 3 at Thursday’s sectional in Rosholt. Other Division 3 sectionals were held in Boscobel, Cameron and Princeton. Starting members of Edgar’s 4x100-meter relay are seniors Austin Dahlke, Drew Guden, Konnor Wolf and Kyle Brewster. Alternates are junior Ayden Weisenberger and freshman Karter Butt. Edgar’s 4x100-meter relay is seeded first in the state among Division 3 schools competing in this event.

Edgar’s boy 4x200-meter relay also ran the fastest time of one minute, 31.38 seconds in the state among all four Division 3 sectionals. Starting members of the relay are Drew Guden, Konnor Wolf, Kyle Brewster and Ayden Weisenberger. Alternates are senior Nate Drabek and freshman Kohlbe Weisenberger.

The Wildcat boys 4x400-meter relay team won the Rosholt sectional in three minutes, 28.59 seconds, which was the second fastest time in the state behind only Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg. Starting members of the relay are Drew Guden, Ayden Weisenberger, Austin Dahlke and Kohlbe Weisenberger. Alternates are junior Mattison Butt and sophomore Avery Normington.

Edgar’s girl 4x100-meter relay squad ran the fastest time of 50.63 seconds in Division 3 at the Rosholt sectional. The team is thus seeded first among 16 Division 3 schools competing in this state event. Starting relay members are senior Rachel Brewster and sophomores Ella Morse, Amber Skrzypcak and Morgan Schnelle. Alternates are junior Malia Hoesly and sophomore Rachel Schneider.

The Wildcat girls 4x400-meter relay squad took second place at the Rosholt sectional in four minutes, 8.15 seconds, which was the third fastest time in Division 3. Starting relay members are seniors Makenna Guden and Rachel Brewster and sophomores Ella Morse and Morgan Schnelle. Alternates are senior Jasmine Schnelle and sophomore Amber Skrzpcak.

Morgan Schnelle placed second in the girls 100-meter dash in 12.75 seconds at the Rosholt sectional. She is seeded fourth in the preliminary state tournament race. Morgan Schnelle also placed fourth in the long jump with 16 feet, 1-3/4 inches at the Rosholt sectional. The top four individuals who place in each sectional event qualify for the state tournament. She is seeded 11th among 17 Division 3 long jump competitors at state.

Edgar senior Austin Dahlke took second place in the boys 200-meter dash in 22.72 seconds at the Rosholt sectional, which was the third fastest time among Division 3 sectionals. Dahlke also placed third in the long jump with 20 feet, 10-1/2 inches at the Rosholt sectional, which was the third furthest jump in Division 3.

Wildcats senior Konnor Wolf placed third in the boys 110-meter hurdles in 15.82 seconds at the Rosholt sectional. He’s seeded seventh among 16 competitors in this preliminary race at state. Wolf also took third place in the triple jump with 42 feet, 1-1/4 inches at the Rosholt sectional. He’s seeded eighth out of 16 competitors at state.

Edgar senior Rachel Brewster took fourth place in the 300-meter hurdles in 48.03 seconds at the Rosholt sectional to advance to state. She is seeded 10th among 16 competitors at state.

Marathon athletes to state

Marathon senior Hope Krautkramer placed fifth in the discus with 106 feet, 7-1/2 inches at the Rosholt sectional. Although she didn’t place in the top four girls, she still obtained the minimum distance of 106 feet, five inches required for girls to qualify for the state tournament. She is seeded seventh among 17 girl discus throwers at state.

Hope Krautkramer also placed seventh in the shot put with 36 feet, 8-1/2 inches at the Rosholt sectional. Again, although she didn’t place in the top four girls in the Rosholt sectional, she still obtained the minimum distance of 35 feet, 11 inches required for girls to qualify for the state tournament. She’s seeded seventh among 19 girl shot put throwers at state.

Red Raiders junior Brett Gertschen took second place in the discus with 141 feet, 10 inches at the Rosholt sectional. He’s seeded ninth among 16 boy discus throwers at state. Gertschen also placed third in the shot put with 45 feet, 4-3/4 inches at the Rosholt sectional. He’s seeded 10th among 16 shot put throwers at state.

Marathon senior Michael Kindlarski placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.87 seconds at the Rosholt sectional. He’s seeded eighth among 16 hurdles at state. Sophomore Griffin Treankler placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles in 42.12 seconds in sectionals, and he’s seeded 10th among 17 boys in the state event.

The Marathon boys 4x100-meter relay team took fourth place in 45.27 seconds at the Rosholt sectional and it’s seeded 10th among 16 boy relays competing at state. Starting relay members are seniors Jared Sweno, Sam Dick and Matt Vande-Boom, and sophomore Mathew Annis. The alternate is junior Tanner Hanke.

Red Raiders sophomore Drake Carlson won the mixed 100-meter dash wheelchair, 400-meter dash wheelchair, mixed 1,600-meter run wheelchair and mixed shot put wheelchair as the lone wheelchair division competitor at the Rosholt sectional. He’ll compete at state in all four events this Friday, June 25.

‘Jay pole vaulters to state

Senior Dana Felzkowski and juniors Aiden Guralski and Caden Decker all qualified out of the WIAA Division 3 Cameron sectional last Thursday for this week’s state tournament pole vaulting competition.

Felzkowski took third place in the girls pole vault with nine feet in the sectional, and she’s seeded seventh among 16 competitors in the state tournament this Thursday, June 24, at UW-La Crosse. Guralski placed second in boys pole vault with 12 feet, six inches in the sectional and he’s seeded fourth at state. Decker placed third with 12 feet, three inches at the sectional and he’s seeded eighth at state.

Tigers in D-2 state

Stratford junior Jaidyn Wright won the WIAA Division 2 girls triple jump with 34 feet, 8-3/4 inches at the Osceola sectional last Thursday. She’s seeded 12th among 16 triple jumpers at the state tournament this Friday, June 25.

The Stratford boys 4x800-meter relay placed third in eight minutes, 29.37 seconds at the Osceola sectional. It’s seeded 12th among 17 schools competing in this relay at state. The Tigers relay team is comprised of junior Elijah Lucio, sophomores Evan Danielson and Conner Weigel and freshman Noah Lucio.
