Julian Krizan, Troy Duellman and Mason Quade all won both of their matches as the Cornell-Gilman-Lake Holcombe/ Turtle Lake-Clayton wrestling co-op lost twice in a double-dual with the Luck Coop and Chequamegon held Thursday in Cornell.

The co-op opened with a 30-15 loss to Lakeland Conference rival Luck-Frederic- Grantsburg-Siren, splitting the four contested matches but giving up three forfeits that created the separation in the final score.

The team took three of five contested matches against Chequamegon in the final dual of the night, but two forfeits pushed the Screaming Eagles to a 21-16 win.

The Luck Co-op edged Chequamegon 24-23 in the other dual.

Against the Luck Co-op, the visitors got an opening forfeit win from Brandon Lucas at 152 pounds, but Krizan came back at 160 with a pin in just 1:02 over Gunnar Schumacher. Luck’s Logan Czech pinned Parker Lytle of Turtle Lake-Clayton in 55 seconds to put his team up 12-6. Gavin Fredericks made it 18-6 with a forfeit at 182 pounds.

Nolan Johnson took a forfeit at 113 pounds, but so did Turtle Lake’s Mason Quade at 126 to make it 24-12 going into the last two matches. The Wolfpack’s Troy Duellman got first-period and thirdperiod takedowns to beat Cory Popham 5-0 at 138 pounds. The decision, however, assured the Luck Co-op of the team victory.

Lucas Djock made sure of it at 145 pounds by pinning the Wolfpack’s Braeden Person at the 3:06 mark after getting a reversal.

The Chequamegon dual started at 170 pounds with Krizan dominating Dominic Schmidt. Krizan built a 7-2 lead through two periods and, after an early reversal by Schmidt, put it away in the third period with a reversal and a couple of threepoint near falls. The 18-4 major decision put the home team up 4-0.

But Chequamegon’s Collin Luhtala needed just 54 seconds to pin Lytle in the 182-pound match and Aiden Miesbauer took a forfeit at 113 to give Chequamegon a 12-4 lead. Quade pinned Sebastian Barnabus in 4:31 at 126 pounds and Duellman pinned Zeke Franks in 3:21 at 132 pounds to give the co-op a 16-12 lead.

The big match of the dual came at 138 pounds where Person took on Chequamegon’s John Miller. Starting the second period in the down position, Person opened the scoring with a reversal, but Miller got a reversal of his own to tie it at 2-2. Miller’s third-period escape gave him a 3-2 win. Owen Miesbauer ended the meet by taking a forfeit for Chequamegon at 152 pounds.
