It’s not often that the two meet, but Lake Holcombe and Cadott shared the court Dec. 14, for a non-conference match-up.

It was a close contest in the first half, as Lake Holcombe managed to grab boards out from under the Hornets. As a result, the Chieftains went into halftime, only down by three points.

“It was a good competitive game, we had a hard time keeping them off the rebounds,” said Cadott coach Dave Hazuga. “We had a nice run in the second half, about midway through; we had a couple shots go in, had some good ball pressure.”

After the break, Cadott stepped it up on offense, while Lake Holcombe, as a smaller in number team, valiantly tried to keep pace. The game ended up going the Hornets’ way, 58-47.

“Playing Cadott, a team that plays in a hard division, I’m super happy with my team’s performance,” said Lake Holcombe head coach Jennifer Lechleitner. “Pretty excited, due to playing with just seven players and the majority of them are underclassman. Couldn’t be prouder of their teamwork.”

Even though the game went their way, Hazuga sees places where Cadott needs to improve their game.

“It’s early in the season, we have a lot to continue to work on,” said Hazuga.

Leading the way for Cadott, was senior Jada Kowalczyk, with 24 points, including a triple from three-point land. Senior Meadow Barone was next, with 8 points, while sophomore Elly Eiler shot a three, ending with 7 points. Senior Hailey Wellner added two shots from beyond the arc for 6 points, and junior Olivia Goodman and sophomore Laken Ryan recorded 4 points each.

Sophomore Morgan Moldrem finished with 2 points and senior Mac Prokupek chipped in with 1 point.

On Lake Holcombe’s side, senior Allison Golat-Hattamer ended with 19 points, with six of those coming from three-point shots.

Sophomore Karly Kirkman was next, with 11 points, including a threepointer and junior Brooke Lechleitner ended with 10 points.

Freshman Emma Lechleitner finished the night with 5 points, while sophomore Justine Kane had 3 points.
