Falcons tame Tigers in CWC-Large

Stratford’s football team did its best to battle back from an early 14-0 deficit against Amherst on Friday at home, but the Tigers’ still fell, 28-13, to the Falcons in Central Wisconsin Conference Large action.

The Tigers got onto the scoreboard at Tigers Stadium just before halftime when quarterback Max Vanderhoof passed the ball to Beau Gross for a sixyard touchdown. Colten Schillinger kicked the extra point.

Stratford was held scoreless until the fourth quarter, when Vanderhoof hooked up with Raife Smart on a 19yard touchdown reception but the two-point conversion attempt failed.

Vanderhoof led the Tigers’ defense with seven tackles while Dillon Kirsch, Beau Gross, Zach Seitz and Darin Heeg had six tackles each.

Tigers head coach Jason Tubbs said the team would learn from its loss to Amherst and play better at Manawa this Friday, Oct. 23.

“I thought our team made some mistakes that can be corrected, and I know they’ll work very hard to improve every day,” Tubbs said.

Wildcats down Cards

Edgar’s football team easily defeated Thorp, 47-6, on Friday at home. The Wildcats jumped out to a commanding 40-6 halftime lead, thus their reserve players were able to be on the football field for most of the second half.

Kyle Brewster was efficient by scoring five touchdowns on six offensive touches against the Cardinals. He had three rushing attempts for 123 yards and two touchdowns, along with three pass receptions for 70 yards and three touchdowns.

Austin Dahlke had seven rushing attempts for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Konnor Wolf completed four of his seven pass attempts for 98 yards and three touchdowns. Edgar head coach Jerry Sinz credited the team’s offensive line for having an “outstanding” game. Austin Dahlke led the Wildcats’ defense with 29 defensive points; he recorded four tackles for loss. “Ayden Weisenberger, Brady Lemmer, Korbyn Bauman, Drew Guden, RJ Knetter, Everett Brehm and Brayden Baumgartner also had excellent games on defense,” Sinz said.

Undefeated Edgar plays a non-conference game at Portage this Friday, Oct. 23.
