Cornell’s season comes to an end against Thorp

Wrapping up their 2019-20 season, the Cornell boys basketball program finished the year at a Regional game in Thorp. Cornell went into the match-up as the No. 16 seed, while Thorp was ranked No. 1.

The home team racked up a large score in the first half, something the Chiefs couldn’t dig out of and the playoff game went to Thorp, 73-29.

“We played a really nice game,” said coach Marcus Leland. “The final score does not show that, but the boys executed really well on all our plays. We got great looks out of our offense and had good defensive energy.”

Leland says one of the Thorp players can shoot “lights out,” which created a large deficit for Cornell.

“We challenged many of his shots and he was still hitting them from well beyond the three-point line,” said Leland.

Leading the way for the Chiefs, was junior Davis Harshman, with 10 points and 6 rebounds. Senior Caleb Balow finished his high school career with 9 points.

Freshman Dylan Bowe added 5 points, junior Austin Bowe had 3 points and senior Tyler Harycki chipped in with 2 points.

Cornell ends the year with a 1-21 record overall and winless in the East Lakeland Conference.

“The boys left it all out there and nothing to be ashamed of,” said Leland. “I was very proud of how this team really came together this year, and continued to improve throughout the season. I would like to thank the seniors for all of their hard work they put into the program and hopefully, we can use this season as a stepping stone to future success.
