Wolfpack puts two wrestlers in semifinals at Cadott Invitational

Julian Krizan and Ethan Person each reached the semifinal rounds in their weight classes, leading the Cornell-Gilman Wolfpack to an 11th-place finish in Saturday’s Cadott Invitational.

Krizan went 2-1 in contested matches and finished third in the nine-wrestler 152-pound bracket. He opened with a pin in 1:06 over Garret Deleasky of Phillips to set up a semifinal match with Cadott’s Nelson Wahl. Wahl (11-4) pinned Krizan in 2:30 to advanced to the championship bout, where he was pinned in 3:45 by Payton Kostka (19-2) of Regis-Altoona.

Krizan (9-8) finished his day with a pin in 3:37 over Whitehall’s Brekken Kulig (11-11) in the third-place match.

Person went 1-2 in contested matches and took fourth in the 11-wrestler 113pound bracket.

Person earned a pin at the 5:45 mark in his quarterfinal match with Regis-Altoona’s Connor Mathison. Prescott’s Ryan Pederson (14-5) pinned Person in 5:41 in the semifinal match. Glenwood City’s Andy Grant (13-5) won the bracket by beating Pederson 3-2 in the final.

The day ended for Person (12-7) with a 5-2 loss to Cadott’s Logan Harel (19-8) in the third-place match.

Braeden Person placed seventh in a full 16-man bracket at 132 pounds. Person (7-8) opened with a pin in 1:09 over Bruce’s Aaron Lloyd but was knocked off in the quarterfinal round 10-2 by Sam Murphy of Prescott. Person lost 13-4 in his first consolation match by Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau/Melrose-Mindoro’s Randon Rommel but he finished with a pin in 2:21 over Hayward-Northwood’s Zach Roach in the seventh-place match.

Andrew Olson took eighth out of 11 wrestlers in the 285-pound weight class. Olson started with a 21-second pin over Hayward-Northwood’s Makaio Stone, but eventual champion Trevor Daffinson of Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau/Melrose-Mindoro pinned him in 1:19 in their quarterfinal bout.

Olson (3-5) was pinned in 2:25 by Glenwood City’s Andrew Berends and in 2:04 by Riley Bauer of Regis-Altoona in consolation matches.

Kalley Krizan was 0-3 in contested matches at 138 pounds and placed 12th. She was pinned in 25 seconds by Durand’s Roy Cooper, pinned in 1:13 by Cadott’s Levi Lindsay and pinned in 38 seconds by Thorp’s Jacob Schultze.

The Wolfpack scored 139 team points to beat Bruce (102) and Thorp (75). Cadott won the tournament with 643.5 points, well ahead of Whitehall (408), Gale- Ettrick-Trempealeau/Melrose-Mindoro (335), Regis-Altoona (330) and Glenwood City (324). Prescott was sixth with 320 points, followed by Hayward-Northwood (299), Phillips (278), Durand (199) and Flambeau (166).

Cornell-Gilman is at Unity tonight, Thursday, for a Lakeland Conference dual meet. The Wolfpack will makes its annual trip to the Ladysmith Invitational Saturday. Wrestling starts at 9:30 a.m.
