The Gilman and Medford archery clubs took part in their first National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) competition of the season on Saturday, with 56 combined archers from the two programs shooting at the Badger State Games.

The Pirate Archery Club from Gilman put 32 archers in the competition at Wausau’s John Muir Middle School. The Pirates finished second out of four teams in the high school division and third out of six teams in the middle school division.

Cadott won the high school competition 3,312 to 3,186 over Gilman, followed by Marshfield (3,127) and Portage (2,947). Stratford was the middle school champion with 3,184 points, followed by Cadott (3,108), Gilman (2,892), Portage (2,876), Stratford II (2,698) and Thorp (2,521).

Individually, Medford’s Landen Viergutz and Gilman’s Kylee Burton, both high school students, were the highest local scorers, earning 285 out of a possible 300. Burton was the top-ranked junior among females and was third among 69 high school girls and third out of 156 girls overall. Viergutz was second out of 27 freshman boys, third out of 51 high school boys and fourth out of 172 boys overall.

Medford’s Jace Rausch was the topranked junior boy with a score of 278. He was ninth among all high school males. Gilman’s Hunter Oberle was the top senior girl, also with a 278. She too was ninth among all high school females.

Medford’s Bristal Kraemer won the overall girls championship in the elementary division (fifth grade and under). Her score of 272 topped a field of 26 archers and 17 fifth-grade girls. Brody Peche was the second-ranked elementary boy in a field of 40 with his score of 234, while Logan Langdon was third at 227.

Ashton Behling was the highestscoring sixth-grade boy with a 274 and ranked seventh out of 81 middle-school boys. Mattie Gebert shot a 265 to rank as the top-scoring seventh-grade girl.

Gilman’s Reece Weir was the best of nine fourth-grade girls with a 214.

Cadott senior Kaden Christenson was the day’s top archer with a 295. Owen Frohmader from St. Paul’s Lutheran in Grafton was the top middle school boy with a 294. Cadott freshman LeRhea Christenson was the top female with a 293.
