The Cadott FFA and agricultural department had an eventful summer, starting June 5, with its partner the Cadott FFA Alumni, offering a drive-through dairy breakfast. During the event, more than 250 meals were served.

The breakfast was sponsored by several local businesses and organizations, including Kwik Trip, Culvers, Chippewa County Milk Promoters and Craft Line Printing.

Following the dairy breakfast, the Cadott agricultural department held a tractor safety course, in partnership with the Chippewa, Cornell and Stanley-Boyd agricultural instructors, where 15 students successfully completed the course.

Next year, tractor safety will be located at Stanley-Boyd, as part of the rotation, but it will still be open to all the partnering schools.

The Cadott FFA followed that up with malt stands, in honor of June dairy month. With over 30 gallons of ice cream and 12 gallons of whole milk used to make malts, the FFA accomplished its goal of supporting dairy farmers.

“We will continue to do so at the first Cadott home football game, with malts being offered for sale in our concessions,” said FFA adviser Keith Becker. “As always, we would like to thank all the farmers in the district.”

Members of the FFA then traveled to Madison, to attend the State FFA Convention. At the convention, two of the members were awarded the highest FFA award at the state level, the State FFA Degree.

Seniors Jordan Gilles and Taylor Lindsay achieved the State FFA Degree, by earning the Greenhand and Chapter Degree, enrolling in 360 hours of agricultural education, making a $1,500 dollar investment in their beef Supervised Agricultural Experiences, dedicating at least 25 hours to community service and much more.

While the State Convention was taking place, some may have had a chance to attend the Northern Wisconsin State Fair, where the Cadott FFA had a large presence. In the swine project, Wyatt Wellner showed, while for the beef project, Kaleb Sonnentag, Lindsay, Levi Lindsay, DeAnna Schneider, Alexa Gindt, Anna Glenz, Anthony Glenz and Ben Steffes were on hand to show.

The lone member in the sheep project was Elizabeth Rajek. The dairy project consisted of Bridget Buttke, Christina Buttke, Holly Nesvacil, Brock Nesavacil, Abigail Goettl, Sam Steffes and Nick Goettl. C Buttke and B. Buttke also represented the Cadott FFA in the goat program.

“We had champion animals and showmanship results from the individuals mentioned,” said Becker. “We have done alot, but there is more to come this summer.”

Members will also sponsor and serve food at the August Come Now and Eat, at St. John’s Lutheran Church. The FFA will also tour Superior Fresh Aug. 18, to educate students on local salmon and lettuce production.

“The students will also learn about careers in aquaculture and conservation,” said Becker.
