A statewide health emergency hasn’t slowed down education at the Cadott School District. The middle school chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) have seen their hard work pay off, with a first place award for the Largest Middle Level Market Share.

The Wisconsin FBLA award is calculated based upon total chapter membership and public school enrollment data. Data used is from the third Friday in September student count, and FBLA membership enrollment as of March 1, of the current year.

“This is super exciting for our school district and community,” said Cadott FBLA adviser Jim Jahr, “as this is only the second year having a middle level FBLA chapter.”

The an award would have been handed out in Madison, at the end of April, during the 2020 State Leadership Conference, but with the COVID-19 pandemic in full swing, the chapter was not present to accept the award.

“Last year, we had two students compete at State, with one advancing to the FBLA National Leadership Conference in San Antonio, Texas,” said Jahr.

At State this time around, Cadott sent multiple students, who would have competed in the high school level – Alyssa Derks (Accounting 1), Jordan Gilles (Agribusiness), Cason Lorenzo (Spreadsheet Applications), Brooke Pederson (Business Communication) and Peter Weir (Intro to Business Presentation). Cadott also sent junior high student Sage Handrich (Business Math & Financial Literacy).

At this time, it’s unclear if Nationals will be held this summer, which are slated for June 29 through July 2, in Salt Lake City, Utah, although the competitions could take place online. The list of competitors is based on scores and the place they took at Regionals, and will be announced April 29.
