This year the Athens FFA Chapter had two members receive their State Degrees. The State Degree is the highest degree a member can earn from the state. To receive this award certain requirements must be met. These include earning both the Greenhand and Chapter Degrees, being an active member for at least two years, have completed over 360 hours of agricultural classes, 25 hours of community service, and 10 parliamentary procedure activities, plus more.

Both Katelyn Osborn and Kaydin Streit earned their State Degree. Katelyn Osborn earned hers through her SAE project of Dairy Production. Through this project she has developed her herd of dairy cattle through careful evaluation of conformation, milk production, temperament, and overall quality of the animal. She works hard with her animals to make sure they not only produce high quality dairy products but also that they are high quality at shows like our county fair.

Kaydin Streit earned her State Degree through Agricultural Education. She did this by assisting our agriculture teacher Mrs. Bunkelman at Maple Grove, one of the elementary schools in the Athens School District. By working at Maple Grove she worked hard making lesson plans and deciding on engaging activities for students. She would then put her lesson plans into action and teach the class.

Both girls worked hard and dedicated many hours to their SAE projects making them deserving of the Wisconsin State FFA Degree. The knowledge, skills and experiences they have gained through their SAE projects will be carried with them into their future careers.
