Athens K-12 approves new administrative contracts

The Athens Board of Education on Monday reconvened from closed session to approve contracts for campus administrators Juli Gauerke-Peter, Joy Redmann and Robin Hanson.
The Record-Review on Tuesday made a request to superintendent Andrea Sheridan, asking her to release details of their contracts for publication.
Other business
■ The board chose to set no open enrollment limits for regular education students for the 2025-26 school year. Limits were placed on special education students, with six spots available at Athens Elementary, which encompasses grades 4K-5, and 12 available for at Athens Middle/High School.
Regular education enrollment was limited to 23 to 25 students total for each grade at Maple Grove Charter School in Hamburg, which encompasses students in kindergarten through fifth grades, for the 2025-26 school year. No space will be available for open enrollment special education students at Maple Grove.
■ Sheridan told the board that the district facilities and advisory committee met on Jan. 20 to discuss having CESA 10 conduct a facilities audit this spring, at a of cost approximately $9,800, in preparation for possibly having a facilities or operational referendum in two years. She said the school district plans to also send out a community survey this summer to get residents’ input on the district’s facility needs.
■ Gauerke-Peter said in her report to the school board that senior Aleah Frahm has won $500 for the essay she wrote for the Daughters of the American Revolution. Gauerke-Peter said Frahm is the first student to win this contest in her 12 years as principal. She said Frahm now has a shot at winning $1,000 in the state competition. If Frahm advances past the state level, then she has a chance to win $10,000 in the federal competition.
■ A pops concert is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23, that will feature the high school band, choir and art departments. Athens Middle/ High School is hosting Solo & Ensemble on Friday, March 28, and classes will not be held that day.
■ KerberRose completed an annul audit report that will be placed on the district website for the public to view.
■ The board approved the 2025-26 school calendar, which includes a two-week Christmas break and high school graduation at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 22. Gauerke-Peter said she realizes the school district tries to avoid having graduation on Memorial Day weekend, but she also doesn’t want to move graduation up one week and lose a week of class instruction for the seniors.
