THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 1973 Vets approve new building At the meeting of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6352 on September 13, the building of the club house was approved.

The building is to be a 40x60 frame construction on a slab covered with prefinished sheet siding. The building will provide kitchen and bathroom facilities and, when completed, clubrooms will be rented out to outside groups desiring them.

Plans are to get the outside completed before cold weather sets in and then the members can work on the inside during the winter months.

25 YEARS AGO...

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 1998 Students hold chili contest Students in the Foods 1 class recently held the fifth annual chili contest with tomatoes canned in class. Winning first place were Bailey Hauke, Janalee Blum and Cory Werner. They named their chili “Lucky Chili.”

The chili was judged for flavor, appearance and consistency. Judges were Paul Rozak, Lia Klumpyan, Christina DeMarco and Dennis Paulson.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 1973 Edgar couple celebrates 50th wedding anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wendtland observed their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday with a reception at the home of their son and daughterin- law, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Wendtland, with whom they live.

Mr. Wendtland was born February 17, 1893, in the town of Frankfort, and his wife, the former Miss Marcella Smith, was born June 24, 1900, in Cadott.

25 YEARS AGO...

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 1998 Work underway for Athens industrial park A-1 Excavating, Inc., Bloomer, was hard at work Monday installing 10 inch water pipe in a trench to serve future tenants in the Athens Industrial Park, located on the southeast extremity of the village. Sewer pipe for the park has already been installed and trenches backfilled.

Costs for the industrial park development will be paid off through tax incremental finance revenues after businesses locate in the industrial park.
