School District of Edgar
On September 1 the Edgar School District welcomed 600 students for the 2023-24 school year. If this is your first year with us, welcome! If you are returning, welcome back! To all of our families, we are honored you have entrusted us with your child’s education.
I want to share something I received in an email from a substitute teacher at the end of last school year. He wrote, “Edgar is like a family. Every time I walk in the doors I feel like I’m entering someone’s living room. The opportunity to establish relationships and build a level of trust with students is tremendous. I can only imagine the close relationships built by staff members.”
I am very proud to share that comment with you because schools and students really do depend on the people who work in our schools, whatever their role, to provide an excellent school experience. We strive to build supportive relationships that help all students belong and thrive in our schools. We are thrilled to announce that over the summer we successfully filled many important staff positions. Notably, we’ve placed individuals of exceptional caliber in positions that have been in high demand. This accomplishment holds significant weight in upholding the excellence of our system. It’s worth noting that there’s a tangible shortage of educators both nationally and statewide, which makes the presence of teachers in classrooms all the more critical. And while we welcome new staff, it remains equally important to acknowledge and express gratitude toward our dedicated returning and veteran staff. Every one of you holds immense importance, and you are the reason why Edgar schools are a great place for our communities’ children to learn and grow. During the summer months, our facilities team seized the opportunity to undertake essential repairs and collaborate with contractors on replacements and enhancements. Notably, at the high school, we successfully installed a state-of-the-art paint booth, greatly benefiting students enrolled in agriculture and technical education courses. The commitment of our maintenance crew was evident as they invested significant hours in thoroughly cleaning classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, and every corner of the building. Their dedication is genuinely appreciated.
One more shout out and a request. Our school bus drivers are critically important for a rural district like ours. Please be courteous when sharing the road with our school buses. They are transporting our precious children. And parents, please remind your children that driving is serious business and reinforce the school safety rules we discuss at school every day. Indeed - everyone is important in the Edgar School District.
Thank you to the Edgar community for your ongoing support for the Edgar School District. Let this be one of the best school years yet!
