A daughter, Skylar Louise Graff, was born May 15 at Marshfield Medical Center to Ashley Lueddecke and Mike Graff of Athens. Grandparents are David and Sandy Lueddecke of Abbotsford and Kathy and the late Edward Graff of Stetsonville. Great-grandparents are Mavis Wood of Abbotsford, Lester Lueddecke and Doris Weber of Stratford and Mary Alice Gumz, Owen.

MCPL Book Club

This month’s book is “The Midnight Library” by Matt Haig. Participants and library staff will meet on September 12, 2 p.m., to discuss.

UW-La Crosse grads

The following students earned their degrees from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in May.

Dartball League

The league meeting for the 2023-24 Mid-State Dartball season will be held on September 6, 7:30 p.m., at Landmark Bar, 117 Alfred St., Athens.

Those interested in getting a team into the league should contact Jenny Lavicka and have at least one person from their team to represent them at the league meeting. The league will need to vote any new teams into the league at the meeting. Anyone with questions can contact Lavicka at 715-571-7508.

Farmers market

The Athens Farmers Market will be held each Tuesday, 4-7 p.m., at Athens Memorial Park.

E DGAR MCPL Book Club

Join Edgar library staff and other book lovers for a discussion of “Maid” by Stephanie Land on September 12, 12 p.m.

Senior citizen athletic passes

The annual free athletic passes for all citizens 62 years of age or older residing in the Edgar School District are now available. Passes are available in the high school office or from ticket sellers at events. Passes are not accepted for any WIAA tournament events which Edgar may host.

Mason Jar Aquarium

Kids are invited to the Edgar library from 4-5 p.m. on August 28 to create their own mini aquarium inside of a mason jar. Free, no registration required.

M ARATHON MCPL Book Club

This month’s book is “Project Hail Mary” by Andy Weir. Join Marathon library staff and other book lovers on September 11, 5:45 p.m., to discuss.

Auxiliary minutes

President Betty Blume called the August 10 meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 469 to order with 20 members and two guests present. Opening meeting protocol was followed.

Opening prayer was given by Chaplain, Julie Carriveau.

Erica Erdman (guest) and Maddie Martin (junior auxiliary member) presented information to the unit on GiGi’s Playhouse. This is an achievement center for children with Down Syndrome. They are inclusive so they do take individuals with other disabilities such as autism. They service central and northern Wisconsin. Grant writing, fundraising events and donors are used to fund the program. Families do not pay for services. Volunteers and financial help are always appreciated.

Brynne Mader read her Americanism essay, “What Patriotism Means to Me.”

Anita Martin presented information on the Adult Day Care Services program through North Central Healthcare Center which her son attends. It is for all areas of disability. They do have social and learning opportunities for participants.

The minutes of the July meeting were read by secretary Kathy Grell. Motion to accept the minutes was made by Anita Martin and seconded by Suzie Lang. Motion carried.

The treasurer’s report was read by treasurer Edee Zuleger. Motion to accept the treasurer’s report was made by Bonnie Schult and seconded by Jenny Skrzypchak. Motion carried.

A bill for registration fee for the state convention was presented. Motion to pay bills was made by Hayley Cramer, seconded by Jenese Karlen. Motion carried.

Bonnie Schult and Betty Blume attended the American Legion Auxiliary 2023 state convention held in Wausau. The new state president is Maggie Geiger. Her motto for the coming year is “Enhancing the lives of our veterans, military, and their families, one day at a time for God and country.”

A thank you card was read from GiGi’s Playhouse for support for the third annual 5K GLOW Fun Run/Walk held in June.

Thank you to Joyce Braunel and Claire Blume for putting a basket together for the state convention.

Notices for auxiliary membership dues for 2024 should be arriving soon. Continue to encourage new members to join the group.

A request was made for a donation towards the MAC golf outing. A motion was made to make a donation by Anita Martin, seconded by Marlene Seubert. Motion carried.

After learning about the Adult Day Care Services program through North Central Healthcare Center, a motion was made to make a donation by Hayley Cramer, seconded by Nicole Skrzypchak. Motion carried.

Participants of the 2023 Labor Day Kiddy Parade will receive a voucher to be used at the American Legion Auxiliary concession stand. These will be distributed by the Legion.

Adult and junior members of the auxiliary will hand out items from the ALA before the parade. Anita Martin will coordinate the activity.

Junior Fall Festival Conference will be held in Campbellsport in October if any junior members are interested.

Nicole is still working on the Fun Days schedule. Any positions that have not been confirmed as filled will be posted using Signup Genius starting August 13. Members and volunteers are welcome.

The group is continuing to work on standing rules.

The next meeting will be held on September 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the village hall.

MCPL Story Times

Children of all ages and their parents and caregivers are invited to the Marathon City library branch for story time each Thursday over the summer. Attendees will read books, sing songs and more during the 45 minutes together.

Get creative by building LEGO creations at the Marathon library branch on August 25, 1-3 p.m. Free, with all blocks provided.

The Marathon City Farmers Market will run every Thursday from 2-6 p.m. until October 26. The market is located in downtown Marathon at 400 Main St.
