EOPLE A THENS MCPL Story Times
Parents and caregivers are invited during the summer months on the first and third Mondays of the month to the library for story time. Children of all ages and parents/ guardians are welcome to these 30-minute programs. Attendees will read books together, sing some songs, learn the ABCs and have an alphabet coloring page available afterwards.
Monday, Aug. 21, 10:30-11 a.m. at the Athens library branch, 221 Caroline St.
Farm Puppets
Celebrate the Athens Fair with a farm animal themed craft at the Athens library branch. Drop in during open hours through August 12 to create farm puppets. Free and all supplies provided.
Farmers market
The Athens Farmers Market will be held each Tuesday, 4-7 p.m., at Athens Memorial Park.
Senior Card group
The Senior Citizens card group met on August 3 for weekly card playing at the Athens Area Fire and Ambulance Hall. Two games of Sheepshead were played. Andy Hoeft won first game and Steve Klockziem took second place. Norbert Lake won the second game and Aaron Totzke took second. Pat Frank received low score.
Newcomers are encouraged to come play Sheepshead every Thursday starting at 12:30 p.m. at the Athens Fire Hall.
E DGAR Senior citizen athletic passes
The annual free athletic passes for all citizens 62 years of age or older residing in the Edgar School District are now available. Passes are available in the high school office or from ticket sellers at events. Passes are not accepted for any WIAA tournament events which Edgar may host.
Concerts in the Park
The Edgar Fine Arts Association’s Concerts in the Park will be held at Oak Street Park beginning at 7 p.m.

Stuffed Animal Sleepover
Kids are invited to drop off their stuffed animal friends at the Edgar library, 224 S. Third Ave., for a stuffed animal sleepover. Pictures of the festivities will be emailed to parents/guardians. Stuffed animals can be dropped off anytime from 1-6 p.m. on August 21 and picked up the following day during library hours.
Mason Jar Aquarium
Kids are invited to the Edgar library from 4-5 p.m. on August 28 to create their own mini aquarium inside of a mason jar. Free, no registration required.
M ARATHON Sidewalk Chalk Art
Youth and families are invited to the Marathon library branch to make sidewalk chalk art from August 7-12 during open hours. Free, chalk provided.
MCPL Story Times
Children of all ages and their parents and caregivers are invited to the Marathon City library branch for story time each Thursday over the summer. Attendees will read books, sing songs and more during the 45 minutes together.

Lego Block Parties
Get creative by building LEGO creations at the Marathon library branch on August 11, 18 and 25, 1-3 p.m. Free, with all blocks provided.
MCPL Book Club
The August book is “I’ll Give You the Sun” by Jandy Nelson. Join fellow readers and staff at the Marathon library on August 14, 5:45 p.m., to discuss this young adult novel.
Summer concerts
Marathon City Heritage Center and Park is hosting a live music series over the summer. All concerts will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the Marathon City Heritage Center Park, 301 Main St. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Food and nonalcoholic beverages will be available for sale at each event.

Farmers market
The Marathon City Farmers Market will run every Thursday from 2-6 p.m. until October 26. The market is located in downtown Marathon at 400 Main St.
S TRATFORD MCPL Story Time
Bring your entire family to an “Art Together”-themed story time on August 16, 10:30-11 a.m., at the Stratford library branch, 213201 Scholar St. Children of all ages and parents/guardians are welcome to this 30-minute program. Enjoy learning through stories, songs and other literature-based activities. This story time will be held outside on the green space surrounding the library. In case of inclement weather, story time will be moved inside the library.
MCPL Book Club
The August book is “Evvie Drake Starts Over” by Linda Holmes. Join fellow readers and staff at the Stratford library on August 16, 1 p.m., to discuss this 2019 novel.
Sidewalk Chalk Art
Bring some color to the outside of the library by creating chalk art and mesthe sages at the Stratford library branch, 213201 Scholar St. Drop in between 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on August 16 for this free creation time.
Magnet Craft

MARATHON C
OUNTY History Speaks
The Marathon County Historical Society’s History Speaks program for August will be presented by Henry Kanemoto, who will be sharing his experience in the Gila River internment camp. The presentation will discuss the treatment and internment of Japanese Americans after Pearl Harbor and the result of Executive Order 9066 signed by FDR on Feburary 19, 1942.
The program will be on August 12, 2 p.m., at the Woodson History Center, 410 McIndoe St., Wausau. The presentation will be recorded and available digitally on Facebook and YouTube within a few days of the live program.
Vintage Game Night
The Marathon County Historical Society hosts Vintage Game Night each third Thursday of the month, 5-9 p.m., at the Woodson History Center, 410 McIndoe St., Wausau. On August 17 there will be vintage video games available. Attendees are also encouraged to bring their own games. Volunteers will be on hand to help learn games.
