Town of Wien family hosts Edgar Dairy Breakfast
Once you visit Miller Acres in Fenwood, it’s easy to see why there is so much love from people in this area for the Miller family. Owners Scott and Marie Miller on June 11 opened their dairy farm to the public by hosting this year’s Edgar FFA Alumni Dairy Breakfast.
The farm that today is called Miller Acres, located in the town of Wien, was originally started by the Tesch family in the early 1900s. The farm was later owned by the Leffel and Burke families before Scott Miller’s parents, Ewald and Viola Miller, purchased the farm in 1963.
Ewald and Violet Miller milked 23 dairy cows and they cropped 80 acres of land. Ewald and Violet bought another piece of property across the road on June 16, 1967. Scott’s parents sold their dairy cows in 1982 and they retired from farming in 1986. They rented the farm until 1991 when Scott bought the farm.
The Millers currently milk 30 Holstein and Jersey cows in their traditional tie stall barn. They grow corn, soybeans and hay on 205 acres of land.
The couple’s three children and their significant others help out on the farm when they aren’t working their full-time jobs. The couple’s two grandchildren also love spending time on the farm.
Marie Miller actually handles all the cow milking twice each day because Scott Miller also fixes vehicles on the farm as part of the other business they own, Miller Repair LLC.
While attending the Edgar Steam Show two years ago, Scott Miller’s friend Fred Baeseman of Edgar persuaded him to host this year’s Edgar FFA Alumni Dairy Breakfast on his farm since he was accustomed to having his children’s weddings on the farm.
In the past, Scott and Marie Miller have hosted the weddings for their children Mitch and Nicole on the farm. This summer they are having their daughter Heather’s marriage to Jaren Skrzypchak at Miller Acres.
