Upper Iowa Grad
Kara Diers, a human services major, was recently named to the Upper Iowa University Dean’s List for the spring semester. To be honored, students must have earned at least a 3.5 GPA and be enrolled full-time.
Sidewalk Chalk Art
Kids, tweens and their families are invited to come to MCPL Athens, 221 Caroline St., from June 19-24 to decorate the sidewalk outside the library with kind messages, elaborate designs or even just a smiley face. Auxiliary meeting minutes
The Athens VFW Auxiliary 8527 met on May 23. Denise Sekorski served a delicious eclair dessert prior to the meeting.
President Ruth Weiler called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Cheryl Engel read the Opening Prayer and the Salute to the Flag was said by all. Cheryl Engel will be chairman of the Poppy Campaign. She will be calling for volunteers. Gloria Lavicka gave the report on the scholarship recipients, Dominic Lewandowski and Sierra Nowacki.
The state meeting was held June 7-10 in Rothschild. Installation of new officers for 2023-24 was held with Gayle Mauer officiating.
The auxiliary’s next meeting will be June 27.
Pint Size Polka
Laugh, sing, and clap along with family-friendly polka music by the Mike Schneider Band. The show will be at MCPL Athens (211 Caroline St.) on June 28 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. The show is free and open to the public. For more information call the Athens library at 715-257-7292.
Farmers Market
The Athens Farmers Market will be held each Tuesday, 4-7 p.m., at Athens Memorial Park.
MCPL Story Time
Parents and caregivers are invited to join during the summer months on the first and third Monday of the month. Children of all ages and parents/guardians are welcome to this 30-minute program. Attendees will read books together, sing some songs, learn the ABCs and have an alphabet coloring page available afterwards.

Senior Card group
The Senior Citizens card group met on June 8 for weekly card playing at the Athens Area Fire and Ambulance Hall.
Two games of Sheepshead were played. Aaron Totzke won the first game and Andy Hoef took second place. Steve Klockziem won the second game and Butch Boris took second. David Perrodin received low score. Newcomers are encouraged to come play Sheepshead every Thursday starting at 12:30 p.m. at the Athens Fire Hall.

Dinosaur Dimensions

Birth announcement
Violet Fleming, weighing 6 pounds 14 ounces and measuring 19 inches long, was born on May 21 at Marshfield Medical Center.
Her parents are Ashley and Michael Fleming of Wausau and her siblings are Jet and Amaya.
Her grandparents are June and Dennis Bornheimer of Athens; Peter and Marcia Paul of Edgar and Deb Fleming of Edgar.
Her great-grandparents are Dennis and Jo Fleming of Wausau.
MCPL Story Time

Winona Dean’s List
Katrina Fredrickson and Ben Robbins were named to the Winona State University dean’s list for the spring semester. To be named to the dean’s list, a student must be an undergraduate enrolled full-time (at least 12 credit hours for a grade) and achieve a minimum grade point average of 3.5.
Summer concerts
Marathon City Heritage Center and Park is hosting a live music series over the summer. All concerts will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the Marathon City Heritage Center Park, 301 Main St. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Food and nonalcoholic beverages will be available for sale at each event.

Community members of all ages are invited to craft friendship bracelets at the Marathon library branch, 515 Washington St. Drop in anytime during open hours on June 14-17 for this free activity. There will be supplies and instructions provided.

The Marathon City Farmers Market will begin on June 15 and run every Thursday from 2-6 p.m. until October 26. The market is located in downtown Marathon at 400 Main St.

Hannah Schoenfuss graduated as part of the class of 2023 at Winona State University. Schoenfuss graduated with a bachelor of science degree in teaching, with two majors - ACS chemistry and elementary education.

Elephant and Piggie Party
Children and families/ caretakers are invited to join the celebration of the works of Mo Willems this summer.
The Elephant and Piggie Party will include interactive readings of some of his wonderful books combined with music and crafts.
This event, on June 21, 10:30-11 a.m., will be held outside the library. In case of inclement weather, it will move inside the library.
