Maple Grove Charter School within the Athens School District celebrated the second quarter CRISP award winners on February 7. Like many schools, Maple Grove has key character traits that students and staff live and breathe every day. Those five character traits follow the CRISP acronym: C for craftsmanship; R for respect; I represents integrity; S stands for stewardship; P is for perseverance. Each grade level teacher selected the following students for very specific reasons.

In Ms. Riehle’s kindergarten class, Rayna Robinson was selected for her outstanding craftsmanship. Her handwriting and attention to detail is something to be admired. She is an amazing leader that keeps everyone safe, happy and respected by demonstrating integrity. Like Rayna, Harper Schulz is also being recognized for her integrity and respect. She loves to recognize others for their CRISP traits, helps when needed and is an overall great friend. Additionally, Harper is a phenomental steward, as she is always the first to tidy up the classroom and takes care of the school.

From Ms. Etten’s first grade class, Clara Vang was selected because she always gives a listening ear, can always be counted on and is an excellent leader even when no one is looking. In addition to Clara, Jackson Skerven was selected for his respectful treatment of others, including those in the classroom, community and natural environments. He can always be counted on for telling the truth and for his honesty. Both students have shown tremendous growth and are important assets to their classroom.

Within Ms. Narloch’s second grade, Airia Floistad was selected because she perseveres every day, especially on challenging math problems that she purposely chooses for herself. She also demonstrates stewardship as she picks up after herself and others which is helpful to her classroom. Avery Plautz is the second nominee because he also perseveres when he chooses to go above and beyond academically. He also shows leadership and compassion, as he often helps other classmates and his teacher without being asked to do so.

In Ms. Barrick’s third grade, Willow Stieber was selected for her enthusiasm for learning and wishes that school would be seven days a week instead of only five. She always has a positive attitude and gives compliments and encouragement to everyone. Willow is truly the “big sister and motherly hen” of her classroom. James Ochodnicky was also selected because of how he leads others so they can successfully accomplish things, too. He works very hard on his academics and always does more than he has to. His sense of humor is contagious, but James also knows how to be serious at the right moments.

From Ms. Zondlo’s fourth grade, Marty Servi was selected for his excellence in his integrity as a learner, student and friend in all of his environments. He is self-motivated and always striving to know and do more. Marty is a constant example of the CRISP traits. In addition to Marty, Adelia Hanson was selected for her performance in perseverance and respect. She is constantly pushing herself and doesn’t give up until she’s successful. Adelia also is always looking out for others to see who she can help and support.

Finally, within Ms. Szutkowski’s fifth grade room, Jordan Henrichs was selected because he has shown growth in his role-modeling of the CRISP traits to others and also in his academics. He goes above and beyond in sharing his critical thoughts and in persevering with laser focus. Also, Aslynn Norfleet was chosen for treating her schoolmates with an extra touch of care and compassion. She is very mature and responsible as she does the right things even when no one is watching.
