Village board votes to rezone property parcel needed for 64 units

The Athens Village Board on Monday voted to rezone almost seven acres of land to allow SC Swiderski in Mosinee to start construction next spring on an apartment building complex with 64 units.

Zoning for this parcel of land was changed from R-3 Two Family to R-4 Multiple Family to allow for the apartment building complex.

The village board also voted to approve the sanitary sewer for SC Swiderski’s proposed apartment complex, but tabled the stormwater plans for the apartment complex until it can verify them with Mike Voss from MSA Professional Services in Marshfield.

Justin Frahm, site designer at JSD Professional Services in Stevens Point and Wausau, attended Monday’s Athens Village Board meeting. He is SC Swiderski’s engineer for the apartment complex project in Athens.

In other news:

n The village board voted y to spend up to $6,500 on hiring a company to screen the pile of blacktop on Oak Street, which is about 550 yards, and then grade and roll it. This will give the village about 250 yards of reclaimed blacktop to use on future street projects.

Village board member Randy Decker said RC Pavers of Schofield would complete this work for $5,500 but it can’t do the work until the end of October, which might be too late depending on how soon cold weather arrives this fall. He’s currently seeking other companies that could do this same work.

n Village board members voted unanimously to have the village spend $1,000 to send public works employee Nick Belter to a six-day groundwater supply and distribution class in September in Madison.
