Santa Claus is coming to Fenwood on Saturday, Dec. 11. He will be available to visit with children at Illusions Bar from 1-3 p.m. for pictures and to receive a treat.

Trees and wreaths

The Edgar Lions Club will hold its annual Christmas tree and wreath sale this holiday season. The Christmas tree sale will be held in the Edgar Village Hall parking lot on Friday, Dec. 3, from noon to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 4, from 8 a.m. until noon.

The Christmas wreath sale is a joint fund raising effort of the Edgar Lions Club and Edgar Public Schools eighth graders. The proceeds will be used for class activities. Wreaths should all be picked up or delivered by students by Friday, Dec. 3, at 3:30 p.m.

COVID dashboard

Edgar Public Schools reports zero cases of COVID-19 among 568 staff and students as of Nov. 23. The school has had 39 confirmed coronavirus cases this year.

Recognition

Edgar Public Schools K-12 vocal instructor Kristine Hafferman was recently named the WEA Benefits outstanding educator. She was recognized at half-time during a Wisconsin Badgers vs. Nebraska volleyball game.

Senior events

St. Stephen ELCA will sponsor two community senior events in December. The first is bingo on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1-3 p.m. The second is a Christmas party on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1-3 p.m. Refreshments and snacks will be served. Both events will be held in the church basement which is wheelchair accessible.

Toys for tots

The Holy Family Parish CCD program is collecting new, unwrapped toys to be donated to the Salvation Army of Marathon County for Christmas presents through Sunday, Dec. 12. Monetary donations will also be accepted.

Caroling

The Holy Family Parish CCD and PCCW plan to sing Christmas carols at the Athenian Living Assisted Living Center in Athens on Saturday, Dec. 4, 10 a.m.

Book Club

Join the Edgar Branch staff and other local book lovers for a cozy Tuesday, Dec. 14, discussion of Samantha Silva’s intriguing twist on a literary and holiday classic.The event will run from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Charles Dickens is not feeling the Christmas spirit. His newest book is an utter flop, the critics have turned against him, relatives near and far hound him for money. While his wife plans a lavish holiday party for their ever-expanding family and circle of friends, Dickens has visions of the poor house. On one of his long night walks, in a once-beloved square, he meets the mysterious Eleanor Lovejoy, who might be just the muse he needs.

Holiday concerts

Edgar Public Schools has announced the date of upcoming holiday concerts on Thursday, Dec. 9. The middle school concert is set for 9 a.m. The grades K-2 concert is set for 12:45 p.m. and the grades 3-5 concert will take place at 1:45 p.m. The high school concert is slated for 7 p.m.

All concerts will take place in the Edgar Public School auditorium.

Holiday parade

The 25th annual Edgar Holiday Parade will be held Sunday, Dec. 5, at 1 p.m. This year’s parade will start at the Edgar Village Hall and head north to Oak Street Park where Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus and their elves with live reindeer will offer children treats from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Hot chocolate and coffee will be served.

Lena START

A 10-week Lena START program for parents with children up to 33 months old will begin Feb. 28, 2022. The offering aims at improving child readiness for school by improving language ability. Looney Lutherans

The Edgar Fine Arts Association will sponsor a performance by the Looney Lutherans on Sunday, Dec. 12, at 1 p.m. in the Edgar Public School auditorium. The show is entitled “Hold the Lutefisk.” The doors will open at 12 p.m.

Free lunch

Edgar Public Schools is participating in a federal program that provides free breakfast and lunches for all students in grades 4K-12. A free and reduced lunch application can qualify families for a waiver of registration fees and free milk at milk break time.

Circle of Joy

The Edgar Circle of Joy food pantry is open to those in need of food in the Edgar Village Hall on the first Wednesday of the month, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and the third Wednesday of the month, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
