St. Cloud University in Minnesota has announced Alec Hafferman, Edgar, has been named to the 2021 spring semester dean’s list. To be eligible for the honor, students must have a grade point average of 3.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Playground

Edgar Elementary School has announced the school playground will be open to the community during the summer. The playground gates will be closed during summer school, but open to the community at the end of the day and on weekends.

Immunizations

Children attending grades K-5 at Edgar Public School must be immunized under state law (with exceptions for health, religious or personal conviction reasons). Updated student immunization records should be submitted to the school each fall. Immunizations are for polio, Hepatitis B, varicella, DTaP/DTP/DT/ TD and MMR.

Ecumenical worship

St. John/St. Stephen ELCA and the Mill Church, Edgar, will host an Oak Street Park ecumenical worship service in Edgar on Thursday, June 17, 7 p.m. prior to the Edgar Firemen’s Homecoming Celebration.

History chats

The Marathon County Historical Society and the Marathon County Public Library present June Dairy Month history chats on Thursdays at 12:30 p.m.

Every week, historical society staff Ben Clark and/ or Gary Gisselman give a short presentation of a topic relating to the history of Marathon County. History Chats go live as a free, online broadcast through both You-Tube and Facebook Live. Past broadcasts are also available for later viewing.

_ June 17- Marathon County’s dairy products. The story of Marathon County’s dairy tradition extends beyond the dairy farm to the products, companies and individuals involved in dairying outside the farm.

_ June 24- An Interview with a Farmer The historical society will host a special guest to discuss their farming experience and the history of their farm.

Virtual gardening

Extension Horticulture Educator Janell Wehl will cover various techniques to tackle garden weeds before they become unmanageable, and what to do when it’s time to triage.

A virtual class on “Managing Weeds” will be held Thursday, June 17, 7-8 p.m.

Facility use

Edgar School District will allow members of the public outside the district to use school facilities this summer while following these COVID- 19 precautions and procedures.

_ Locker rooms will not be used. Groups should be expected to come dressed.

_ All athletes must bring their own water bottles. Water fountains will not be in use. Bottle filling stations will be provided.

_ Masks should be used at any time athletes are together in groups but not competing in physical activity.

_ All guests to the building should sanitize their hands upon entry.

_ Symptom checks should be done by individuals/athletes prior to arrival at the building location/gym. Communication should be sent to opposing coaches to produce symptom checks prior to arrival.

_ Reasonable effort should be made to abide by CDC mitigation strategies through the facility/gym use. Distancing and handwashing should be planned for throughout the use of the facility.

_ Concession workers must be masked and gloved if preparing/ serving non-prepack- Homecoming

aged food.

_ Protocols for sanitizing the facility area used may be required. A fee may be assessed if extra time is needed to sanitize/clean the facility.

The Edgar Fire Department has announced it will sponsor a Homecoming community festival Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 18-20, at the St. John’s Catholic Church parking lot in Edgar. The department will host three days of amusements, rides, food and refreshments.

Entertainment will be provided all three days in the fire department beer tent. On Friday night, the band will be Hell Hounds, starting at 9 p.m. Saturday’s band is Slab, also starting at 9 p.m. The Jerry Schmitt Band will entertain starting at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

The Edgar Lions Club will serve grilled chicken at the Edgar Firemen’s Celebration on Sunday. Chicken will be served in the Lion’s Club tent from 10:30 a.m. until it is gone.

There will be a Saturday cornhole tournament, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This year’s rides will be provided by K and M Amusements.

There will be a community parade on Third Ave. (CTH H) Sunday at 1 p.m.

Community garden

The Village of Edgar is offering plots in a community garden located south of Scotch Creek.

Chalk Fest

The Village of Edgar has announced that Chalk Fest and a historical reenactment in Oak Street Park will be held Friday, June 25, noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday, June 26, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Chalk demonstrations on sidewalk squares near the intersection of Third Ave. and Redwood Street are planned for Friday. Judging will be on Saturday. A free-will pancake breakfast will be offered by The Mill Church on the southeast parcel of the Third Ave. and Redwood Street intersection. On Saturday, a car show will be held on Redwood Street 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and a quilt show in the Edgar Village Hall during the same time.

A crew from Baumann Landscape installed weed fabric and 14 plants to decorate the east side of the Edgar Village Hall last week. The work crew included Kohlbe Weisenberger, Brett Baumgartner, Makayla Wirkus, Delaney Dennee and Debbie Bauman.
