Stratford to seek new clerk
The village of Stratford is seeking a new clerk to replace Terri Wiersma, Colby, after she gave the village her two-week notice of resignation on Oct. 2.
Keith Grell, village of Stratford president, said Wiersma notified the village she and her husband are moving back to Illinois to care for elderly family members. Wiersma worked as Stratford village clerk for one year.
“We decided to let her leave her position on Oct. 2 and pay her out until her two-week resignation notice ends this Friday, Oct. 16, because we felt she might not be totally focused working on the new village budget while she’s thinking about her elderly family members’ needs in Illinois,” Grell said.
June Krueger, who retired as Stratford village clerk on Jan. 15, is taking over for Wiersma as the temporary village clerk until the village hires a new full-time person for the job. Krueger worked 16-1/2 years as Stratford village clerk before she retired. She trained Wiersma on the job when she began working for the village on Sept. 30, 2019.
Grell is thankful Krueger is willing to fill in as village clerk and help the village create its 2021 budget. The village of Stratford started advertising for its open full time village clerk’s position last week. The application deadline is Monday, Nov. 2 or until the job is filled. Grell said the village’s goal is to have a new village clerk working by Tuesday, Dec. 1.

_ Candlewood Property Management of Stevens Point continues to work on constructing an eight-apartment complex on Varsity Street near St. Joseph Catholic School.
Subcontractor Switlick & Sons of Athens installed the new infrastructure including the street and water and sewer for the apartment building.
Scott Dennee, village of Stratford director of public works, said the new building would consist of six apartments with two bedrooms and two bathrooms each, and two apartments with one bedroom and one bathroom apiece. Dennee said Candlewood Property Management’s goal is to have construction on the apartment building finished in time for Stratford-area residents to begin renting the apartments on Monday, Feb. 1, 2021.
