pledges to pay the village a guaranteed amount of $47,688 in property taxes that will be funnelled into the village’s Tax Incremental Finance account.
The agreement stipulates the village will pay for closing costs on the transaction.
In other village board action:
_ The board approved sale of a $1.9 million Tax Incremental District revenue bond through Ehlers Associates at a rate of 2.54 percent interest. The bond will be sold by Quarles and Brady, Milwaukee. Cost to sell the bond will be $38,000.
_ Village administrator Andy Kurtz said Sonnentag Rd. is now fully a village street and the village recently spent $3,500 installing a culvert and ditching the right of way to handle a water issue.
_ Kurtz announced the town of Emmet has withdrawn from the Marathon Fire District to join the Mosinee Fire District. The village, he said, will lose $5,923 in revenue, but, as a result of an increase in fire rates, will likely only suffer a $1,039 loss this coming year. He said the village could tighten the village’s fire department budget this coming year and seek additional revenue next year from remaining towns that receive village fire service.
_ Administrator Kurtz said an inspection report has found problems at 604, 606 and 608 Main Street. He said the properties were in poor repair and he may come back to the board with a recommendation the properties be razed. “People should not be living in conditions like that,” the administrator said.
_ The village board voted to set Trick or Treating hours on Halloween, 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31.
The board voted after administrator Kurtz, who had recently received a COVID- 19 update from the Marathon County Health Department, said that coronavirus infections were up significantly in the county and had risen faster than the health department is able to contract trace patients with the illness.
Kurtz said the village will recommend that homeowners in the village who want to hand out treats observe social distancing and place a bowl of candy at the edge of their porch or stairs so Trick or Treaters can take candy themselves out of the bowl.
_ In a discussion of the 2021 village budget, Kurtz said he may recommend the village fund a part-time officer at up to 400 hours per year to handle an increase in calls for service at the Marathon Police Department.
Kurtz said the extra calls were not just requests for traffic patrolling but were for criminal or other matters.
He said the county sheriff’s department was taking additional calls for service in the village.
The village currently has three fulltime officers.
_ Trustees voted to send to the village planning commission a request from Ben Salber to vacate a portion of an alley behind 210 Washington. The village resident wishes to combine the property with another lot after he razes a building on the property.
_ Board members approved hiring Norm Fischer as a winter seasonal employee to help with snow plowing.
_ Board members agreed to join the Marathon Area Business Association. Trustee Keith Paul abstained from the vote.
