The Walk In Their Shoes lecture series will feature civil rights activist Charles Person in a presentation Monday, March 16, 6:30 p.m. at the UW Center for Civic Engagement Building on the UW-Stevens Point at Wausau campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Passport event

Residents of Edgar and its surrounding communities will have a chance to apply for a U.S. passport locally during a special one-day-only application event on Monday, March 16, from 2:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. at the Edgar Branch Public Library.

Appointments will be taken by calling the library’s staff of passport agents at 715-261-7240. It is highly recommended that you confer with one of the passport agents before the event, especially if applying on behalf of a minor. Acceptance agents can also confirm what you will need to bring with you when you apply.

Womens Club

The Edgar Womens Club met March 3 at the Edgar Village Hall. President Dianne Laessig opened the meeting. Deb Gauerke informed the club members of events the Edgar Branch Public Library will offer the public. Club members discussed the upcoming events, a box social in April, bake and book sale and spring banquet in May.

The theme of the evening was “Reaching Out to the Community.” Deb Gauerke gave ideas to club members. Members made cards for the Honor Flight veterans leaving Edgar, and members decorated rocks for the community to discover. The travelling prize made by Alisa Dragseth was won by Bev Stencil. The next meeting will be Tuesday, April 14, It will be a box social at the Edgar Village Hall.

Children’s theatre

The Missoula Children’s Theatre will hold auditions for a performance of “The Emperor’s New Clothes” on Monday, March 30, 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The full scale musical will cast approximately 50-60 children from the Edgar area.

The public performance of “The Emperor’s New Clothes” is slated for 7 p.m. Friday, April 3, in the Edgar Public School auditorium.

Movie Night

The Edgar FBLA will sponsor a Family Movie Night Thursday, March 12, at 6:45 p.m. in the Edgar High School auditorium. The featured movie is Disney’s “Frozen II.”

Family fun

Edgar Elementary School families are invited to a fun night 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24. This will be math night.

Moms and muffins

Mothers, grandmothers, aunts and other female relatives are invited to read to grades 4K-5 Edgar Elementary School students Friday, March 20, for a “Moms and Muffins” event. A second event for some 4K students will be held Monday, March 23.

Garage sales

The Edgar area community garage sales will be held Thursday, May 14, through Saturday, May 16. Deadline for sign-up is Monday, May 4. For more information, contact Brooke Borchardt at 715-218-3372.

Dazzling deceptions

Magician Brian Ledbetter will will perform Sunday, March 15, 1 p.m., at the Edgar Public School auditorium. His show includes stage illusions, audience participation and comedy. The performance is sponsored by the Edgar Fine Arts Association.

Honor Flight event

St. John’s Church, Edgar will sponsor a community event from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Monday, March 30, in the church dining hall to write letters and make cards for Never Forgotten Honor Flight veterans. The cards and letters will be presented as “mail call” to 14 Edgar veterans scheduled for an April 20 trip to see the war memorials in Washington, D.C.

Light refreshments will be served at this event.

Youth fastpitch

Edgar girls that have completed kindergarten through 8th grade (as of the summer of 2020) are invited to sign up for Edgar youth fastpitch summer softball on Wednesday, March 18, between 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Edgar High School cafeteria. Payment of fees, donations and concession signup for middle school and high school home games will take place this night as well. Games are Monday through Thursday and tournaments are optional. Storytime for Toddlers

Edgar Public School will offer a Storytime for Toddlers program Tuesdays, 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m, at the school library. The storytimes will include read alouds, Smartboard activities and visuals. The program is open to the public.

Blood pressure

The Marathon County United Way will hold a free blood pressure screening at Stark’s Floral, Edgar, 9-11 a.m. every second Monday of the month. No registration is required. A registered nurse will provide educational support.

EATS

Edgar Area Trail Supporters met March 4 at the Edgar Village Hall.

The upkeep of machines and grooming of the trails for the season was discussed.

Woodland Waddle was a success and an enjoyable day for all, it was reported.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 1. All are welcome.

Softball meeting

The Fenwood Lions Club will hold an organizational meeting for the men’s softball league on Thursday, March 26, at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at Illusion’s in Fenwood. At this meeting, there will be a discussion about possibly beginning a wooden bat league. If you have any questions, contact Jeremy at 715-574-2930.
