On campus

Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa, has named Xavier Lechleitner, Edgar, to its fall 2019 semester dean’s list. To be eligible for the list, students must have earned a G.P.S. of 3.5 or higher.

Two Edgar students graduated Dec. 14, 2019, from UWStevens Point. They are Isaac Cline, bachelor of science, social work; and Kody Meyer, bachelor of science, forestry.

EATS

Edgar Area Trail Supporters (EATS) met Feb. 5 at the Edgar Village Hall.

Difficulties with trail grooming were discussed. Fencing, gates and weather conditions create challenges but trails continue to be kept in good condition with dedication and hard work, it was reported.

Trail maintenance costs money so two mailboxes were installed, one at the East Limits trail head and another at the sign by the tennis courts to give anyone who chooses, the opportunity to donate.

The last of the prepara- tions for the 11th annual Woodland Waddle were completed. It takes place on Sunday, Feb. 16.

The next meeting will be held Wednesday, March 4, 6:30 p.m. at the Edgar Village Hall. All are welcome.

Lenten schedule

St. John/ St. Stephen ELCA Lutheran Parish has announced its Lenten worshipschedule. Service locations will alternate between St. Stephen and St. John locations. Soup suppers will be at 5 p.m. and worship 6 p.m.

Ash Wednesday services will be held Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. at St. Stephens with no soup supper.

Soup supper and services will continue at the church March 11 and 25.

Soup supper and services at St. John’s will be held March 4 and 18, and April 1.

St. John honor roll

St. John the Baptist Catholic School, Edgar, has an- nounced its honor roll from the second quarter of the 20192020 school year. Students are awarded highest honors for a GPA of 4.0 or higher; high honors for a GPA between 3.50 and 3.99; and honors for a GPA between 3.00 and 3.49.

Church bazaar

St. John the Baptist Church, Edgar, will hold a bazaar Sunday, Feb. 23, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the church basement. There will be games, food and refreshments.

Italian dinner

St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Edgar, will host a lasagna and spaghetti dinner Sunday, Feb. 16, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. All are welcome. Take-outs are available.

Summer concerts

The Edgar Fine Arts Association has scheduled four local performers for this summer’s Concert in the Park series.

The 7 p.m. Thursday shows in Oak Street Park, Edgar, include Tiny and Shoes (Tim Karlen and Steve Schumacher), July 23; Jerry Schmitt, July 30; David Anthony Berg, Aug. 6; and Elvis (Fred Heidmann), Aug. 13.

Service groups, yet to be determined, will serve treats and refreshments in the Oak Street Park during these concerts.

The association has planned two Sunday 1 p.m. concerts in the Edgar Public School auditorium. The Cody Clausen Trio, Coloma, will perform Feb. 16 and Brian Ledbetter, an illusionist and magician from Las Vegas, will give a show on March 15.

Family fun

Edgar Elementary School will host a Family Fun Night of candy bar bingo on Thursday, Feb. 20, 6 p.m. in the school cafeteria.

Preschool screening

Edgar School District will offer screening for all district children birth through age 4. The screening will help identify any children who may need assistance prior to entering school.

Screening dates are Wednesday, March 11, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, March 12, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Birth through age two screening will take approximately 45 minutes. Three and four year old screening will last 75 minutes.

Storytime for Toddlers

Edgar Public School will offer a Storytime for Toddlers program Tuesdays, 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m, at the school library. The Storytimes will include read alouds, Smartboard activities and visuals. The program is open to the public.

Book Club

The Edgar Book Club will discuss “The Elephant Whisperer” by Lawrence Anthony on Thursday, Feb. 13, starting at 11:30 a.m. at the Edgar Branch Public Library. For more information, call the library at 715-352-3155.

Baked potato bar

Hope Lutheran Church, town of Frankfort, will hold a baked potato bar and chili supper Saturday, Feb. 15, 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Proceeds from the event will go towards mission projects a new worship center.

Bean bag

The Fenwood Lions Club will hold a fourth annual bean bag tournament Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Fenwood Village Hall. Registration is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For more information, call 715-574-2930.

Missoula Theater

Edgar Public School will have a public performance of Missoula Theater’s “The Emperor’s New Clothes” on Friday, April 3, 7 p.m. in the school auditorium.

Auditions for the production will be held Friday, April 3, 1 p.m. There are roles for students in grades 5K through grade 12.

Woodland Waddle

Edgar Area Trail Supporters will sponsor the Scotch Creek Woodland Waddle snowshoe race on Sunday, Feb. 16.

The five kilometer race in Edgar’s Scotch Creek Woodland Preserve will start at 11 a.m. A 400-meter children’s run is set for 10:45 a.m.

The course includes a mix of groomed ski trails and single track snowshoe trails. The race/walk will be held with or without snow. Awards will be presented at 12:30 p.m.

Blood pressure

The Marathon County United Way will hold a free blood pressure screening at Stark’s Floral, Edgar, 9-11 a.m. every second Monday of the month. No registration is required. A registered nurse will provide educational support.

Celebrate LEGOs

The Edgar Branch Public Library will celebrate LEGO blocks during the month of February.
