St. Mary’s honor roll

St. Mary’s School, Marathon, has announced its first quarter honor roll for the 201920 school year.

Grade 6

High honors: Anika Kolka.

Grade 7

Practice schedule

The Sunday School children at St. Matthew’s Church, Marathon, will practice for a Children’s Christmas Service on Sunday, Dec. 8, from 11:15 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. (lunch at 10:45 a.m.) and on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 9-11:30 a.m. (lunch at 11 a.m.) The Children’s Christ- mas Service at St. Matthew’s Church will be Sunday, Dec. 15, at 9:30 a.m.

Ladies Aid

The Ladies Aid at St. Matthew’s Church, Marathon, will hold a meeting and Christmas party on Thursday, Dec. 5. beginning at 12 p.m. Bring a dish or dessert to share.

Special meeting

A special voters meeting for St. John’s and Zion Lutheran churches, town of Rib Falls, will be held on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 9 a.m. immediately following the worship service at 8 a.m. The congregations will discuss and vote on the question presented at the Open Forum on Nov. 17.

Youth Group caroling

Youth at St. Matthew’s Church, Marathon, will meet Sunday, Dec. 15, 5 p.m. to go caroling in Marathon. Anyone wishing for carolers, contact Bruce Hintz, Jr. at 715-6935400. After caroling, the youth group will return to church for a game of bingo and hot chocolate.

Photo coaster

Looking for a unique gift idea or keepsake? Adults and teens can drop in and create a tile photo coaster on Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 4 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. at the Marathon Branch Public Library.

Using Mod Podge, attendees will affix a personal photograph to a ceramic tile, creating the perfect gift to give to a friend or family member (or to use on your own coffee table.) Attendees are asked to bring their own photos from home; all other materials will be provided. Drop in any time between the listed hours to participate.

Book Club

The Marathon Book Club will meet Monday, Dec. 9, 5:45 p.m. at the Marathon Branch Public Library to discuss “Hello, Universe” by Erin Entrada Kelly. For more information, call the library at 715-443-2775. Christmas cantata

St. Mary’s Church, Marathon, invites the public to attend a Christmas cantata on Sunday, Dec. 15, at noon. The no-charge performance will last 30 minutes.

Giving Tree

People’s State Bank, Marathon, will again host a a Circle of Joy Christmas “Giving Tree.”

People wishing to give Christmas presents to needy children can review ornaments on the tree stating children’s ages and wish lists. To give a gift, people need to pick a name. All gifts are to be wrapped and returned to the bank tree no later than Thursday, Dec. 12.

Trip support

Kurt-n-Jo’s Restaurant in Marathon City has offered to host “Washington Wednesdays” in support of a Marathon Venture Academy trip to Washington, D.C. Kurt-n-Jo’s will donate 10 percent of Wednesday sales (dine-in, take-out, and ice cream) from 4-8 p.m. to the student trip. The fundraiser will last through Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2020.

Watercolor Tile Art

Children can create colorful, one-ofa- kind ceramic coasters during a free drop-in art event on Friday, Dec. 6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Marathon Branch Public Library. The offering is free. Call 715-443-2775 for more information.

Farm toy show

The 32nd annual Farm Toy and Craft Sale sponsored by the Marathon FFA Alumni will be held Sunday, Dec. 8, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Marathon Area Elementary School. Proceeds from the event will support the Marathon FFA and the Marathon High School agricultural program. For more information, contact
