The Stratford Area Historical Society (SAHS) will hold it monthly meeting at 7 p.m. this Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the Stratford Community Hall.

SAHS will be working on ideas for the Christmas display in the historical museum. The public is welcome to attend the meeting.

Lions meet

The Stratford Lions Club recently held its October meeting at the Stratford Community Hall. Club members enjoyed social time and then a meal prepared by Lion Mike Weber.

Lion president Paul Rozak started the evening’s meeting. The September minutes were approved. Officer’s reports were read and approved. Committee reports were read and discussed.

Meeting items of note consisted of Lion Barry Brubaker lighting a candle in honor of Arne Ruha at the Lion State convention; food items were brought to the meeting and the club also donated $250 to the Stratford Food Pantry; the club donated $2,000 to Lion programs including the Wisconsin Lions Foundation, Leader Dog, 27C-1 District Hearing, Vitamin A Project, Journey for Sight, Lions Eye Bank and Pre-K Vision Screening.

Lion 27C-1 District Governor Bill Mueller will be attending the club’s November meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the Stratford Community Hall.

United Way funding

Applications for 2020 funding from the Marshfield Area United Way are now being accepted. The application for consideration is availlable online at marshfieldareaunitedway. org. All applications must be submitted electronically, because hand written applications will not be accepted.

To be considered for funding, organizations or programs must be a 501 (c) 3 charitable health or human service organization. Funds requested must address emerging needs as identified by the community’s Vision Council in the areas of education, financial stability or health.

Organizations must serve individuals living in the area encompassing the following communities: Arpin, Auburndale, Chili, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marshfield, Neillsville, Pittsville, Spencer and Stratford.

Applications must be submitted online by 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2. Anyone with questions about the application process should send contact either info@marshfi eldareaunitedway.org or call 715-384-9992.

Fall quilting events

People can work on their quilting projects from 1-3 p.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 26, at the Stratford Community Hall, located at 118900 Larch St.

Each month, Marathon County Branch Stratford library staff will share quilting skills and techniques with attendees of this program.

Attendees should bring their own supplies and ongoing projects, and the library will provide patterns and instruction books to further their experience.

Hoops Club signup

Stratford Boys Hoops Club registration for third through sixth graders will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. this Monday, Oct. 28, in the high school commons.

Youth boys basketball players and their parents should enter the doors located on the north side of the commons on Myrtle Street. All new boys basketball players must attend this information meeting.

Previous boys basketball players will only need to make payment and be sized for their uniform. Parents should bring an electronic device (phone/ tablet, laptop) and checkbook to complete the online regisration. For more information, parents should go to http:// www.stratfordboyshoopsclub. com.

Stratford is also seeking a third grade boys basketball coach. Anyone interested in wanting to coach or have any other questions should e-mail them go stratfordhoops@ gmail.com.

Spooky Slime Lab

Children, tweens and teans can make their own spooky slime from 3:30-5 p.m. this Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the Marathon County Public Library’s Stratford Branch, located at 213201 Scholar Street. Other creepy lab projects will be offered too.

Registration for this event is required. Anyone wanting more information should can call the library at 715-687-4420.

Trick-or-Treating

The village of Stratford will hold Trick-or-Treating from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31. Zion Lutheran Church in Stratford will hold its annul Truck or Treat in front of Klemme Park to coincide with the village’s Trick-or-Treating hours.
