Spencer ag department and FFA share highlights of busy year

By Samuel Schmitt, FFA advisor The Spencer Ag Department and FFA chapter have been very busy over the past year. Highlights of our year include taking first place in meat judging at the regional Career Development Events hosted by Mid-State Technical College in Wisconsin Rapids, attending both the state and national FFA conventions, participating in the Washington Leadership Conference, having Section 7 State Officer Luke Schraufnagel perform a chapter visit in Spencer, attending one of the largest Fall Leadership Workshops ever in Thorp, and participating in many other chapter level activities. We have a great core of members that love to volunteer and have fun. Thanks to our great senior leadership, we have done very well recruiting and retaining younger members. We will certainly miss our graduating seniors, but appreciate everything they have done for this FFA chapter in their time at Spencer.
As we enter the spring semester, we look forward to growing our hanging baskets, building fishing poles, and cooking up some fun food science labs in the classroom. Our FFA and FFA alumni also have some great events in store for the next several months. Our amazing alumni group will be hosting the Mark L. Zimmerman Agricultural Science Learning Center: Bingo Night at the Stratford Heritage Barn on Feb. 22. Tickets can be bought using the link on our Facebook page. On Feb. 26 and April 23, the Spencer FFAwill be hosting blood drives at school through The Community Blood Center. Community participation in the blood drives help a great cause and can also help our students obtain scholarships. The Spencer FFAAlumni Farm Toy Show will take place on March 30. On Saturday, April 19, Spencer FFA will host our annual Easter Egg Hunt. Please give our “Spencer FFA Chapter” Facebook page a follow, as it will have more details and information about our other activities and events. We appreciate all of the community members who help to support us and are interested in what we are up to.
