Notes from the district administrator Notes from the district administrator

Spring is here, I thought, with the not-so ordinary 80-degree days this past week, but then Old Man Winter had to have his last say by dumping over a foot of snow on Sunday and Monday. Nonetheless, we are closing in on completing another school year at Loyal. With about six weeks left of school, the school year has flown by and our seniors are gearing up to celebrate their graduation at the end of May.

The year has gone by quickly as we have worked on two operating referendums. On April 4 our community answered the call by passing our operating referendum for five years. The district would like to thank the community for the support of our schools and allowing us to continue to thrive.

In the school board election, Tom Odeen ran unopposed and will remain on the board representing the area south of highway 98. Derek Weyer ran against Kim Bremmer for the City of Loyal seat and won. I would like to welcome Derek to the board and thank Kim for her years of service on the board and offer her my best wishes in her future endeavors.

Through the work of passing the referendum, we have established growing collaboration with Greenwood. Together, both districts continue to look at different ways to improve the opportunities for our students. For the 2023-24 school year, both districts have a common calendar and bell schedule to allow collaboration and sharing of staff, students and facilities. We are looking at different classes, co-curriculars and other areas that we can collaborate our resources.

The work on the baseball field was coming along wonderfully until Sunday. The snow will put us behind some, but our goal is to be playing games on it sometime in May. The majority of the fencing has been installed and the visitor dugout is completed; we are working on the concrete pad for the home dugout and the blending of the outfield. The district would like to thank everyone who has helped in any manner and for the donations of time, materials and/or machinery to assist in the cause. This will be very nice when completed.

Congratulations to the Class of 2023 valedictorian, Leah Scherer, and to our co-salutatorians, Maci Bogdonovich and Anna Lindner. These young ladies have worked extremely hard on their academics as well as being very active with cocurriculars, community activities and volunteering.
