Athletes from Greenwood, Granton earn 1st at Early Bird Invitational

The track and field teams from Greenwood and Granton competed at the Early Bird Invitational held in Eleva-Strum on April 11. The teams had a couple individuals place first in their events while several others placed in the top eight to earn points for their team at the start of the outdoor season.

The Granton Bulldogs had one athlete take first place in an event. Alex Gardner won the 400m dash, completing the race in 56.59. He also took seventh in the 200m dash, finishing in 24.89.

In relays, the mixed 4x100m team took second place with a 57.02 time, and the girls 4x200m relay team placed fifth with a time of 2:21.91.

Other individual results for the Granton track and field team are as follows: Lizzy Reinart, 3rd, high jump, 4’6”, 6th, 300m hurdles, 1:06.17; Anna Kayhart, 3rd, 300m hurdles, 1:00.59, 5th, triple jump, 28’0.5”, 7th, 100m hurdles, 20.01; Faustina Thomas, 3rd, triple jump, 28’3”, 5th, 400m dash, 1:10.52, Alexis Pongratz, 7th, 800m run, 3:12.19; Koltin Luchterhand, 8th, 800m run, 2:43.55.

The Greenwood track and field team had two individuals take first place in events. Renaya Horvath won the mixed 100m dash wheelchair event, finishing in 31.06. Rogan Travis also took first place, throwing 44’4” in the shot put to do so. He also took third in the discus with a throw of 112’6”.

A few other individuals from Greenwood also placed in the top eight to score points. Sarah Reiff took fifth in the shot put (28’6.25”) and seventh in the long jump (13’4”). Kayla Grambsch jumped 25’10.25” in the triple jump to place eighth and Christian Thomas took seventh in the long jump with a leap of 17’2.25”. Also placing in the top eight for the Indians was the girls 4x100m relay team, which placed fifth with a time of 1:02.06 In the women’s events, the Greenwood girls earned 11 points to take 10th place and the Granton girls earned 37 points to place ninth. Also competing at the Early Bird invite were Stanley-Boyd (121), Cadott (116), Eleva-Strum (84), Colfax (75), Augusta (61), Immanuel Lutheran (57), Alma-Center Lincoln (51) and Independence-Gilmanton (42).

In the men’s events, the Granton boys took 10th with 13 points and the Greenwood boys placed ninth with 18 points. Other teams placing in the men’s events were Stanley-Boyd (206), Augusta (121), Cadott (79), Eleva-Strum (64), Colfax (44), Immanuel Lutheran (43), Independence-Gilmanton (40), Alma Center Lincoln (20) and the Chippewa Valley Lightning Bolts (8).
