Student: Support our school district
Dear editor, My name is Rogan Ashbeck, and I am a sophomore at Loyal High School. I have attended the Loyal School District since 4K. I am proud to say that I will be a graduate of the Loyal School District in a few short years. My years at the Loyal School hold many memories that are special to me: from the Easter Parade in kindergarten to the trip to see the capitol in Madison in the fourth grade, to the most recent National Honor Society trip to Milwaukee for the Bucks game. I am a high honor student, part of a leadership committee, a member of the FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes), a student-athlete and just a regular high school kid who enjoys hanging out with friends. I have had many wonderful opportunities here in Loyal and am so thankful for those experiences.
On April 4, voters in the Loyal School District will be asked to approve an operational referendum. It is my hope that the residents of our district will say “YES” to this referendum. This referendum is very different from the previous capital referendum that was voted down last spring. The referendum on April 4 is necessary to keep our school open.
I have three younger brothers who will all (hopefully) be able to graduate from Loyal School. I want them to have the same opportunities as I did, maybe even MORE opportunities than me. Although the future of our school district is unknown, I am hoping that by voting YES to the referendum that we can continue to support our school district in our community. The families who live in Loyal deserve to attend a school that isn’t just surviving, but instead, a school that is thriving. Without a school in our community, what makes this a desirable place to live? In my opinion, if you want to see businesses thrive, new businesses come to town or families move into our community, a school district is a must.
The thought of what would happen if this referendum is voted down is quite scary. Many people are talking about just simply consolidating with Greenwood, or just “shutting the doors.” From what I understand, consolidating with Greenwood isn’t something that would happen overnight. If this referendum doesn’t pass, we may not even be given that option in the future.
Whether you attended school in Loyal, your children did, grandchildren do, or maybe a neighbor kid does, it is my hope that on April 4, our community will join together and support the Loyal School District!
