County snowmobile trails open, with exception

The Clark County Forestry and Parks Department has announced the opening of most of the county’s winter ATV/ snowmobile trails. All trails, including those in the county forest, have been opened, except for Trail Y from State Highway 10 to Lindsey.

Riding conditions Riders should expect early season riding conditions and use extreme caution when riding. There are some areas with open water, and open water can be present anywhere. There are also areas with icy patches, thin base, rough and/or some soft agricultural fields.

Grooming operations will take place. Riders must yield to all groomers.

“Remember that riding on closed trails is trespassing. Please stay on the trail and respect the private landowners that allow snowmobiling on their property,” wrote Nathaniel Beaver of the forestry and parks department in a press release.

Logging activity Riders are urged to use caution while riding trails in the Clark County Forest. There are several areas where logging operations are taking place. Trucks will haul timber on forest roads and snowmobile trails. Some snowmobile trails are plowed.

“Please slow down, yield to logging equipment and use caution,” Beaver wrote.
