December 19, 2012 --Darwin Zwieg, the Clark County District Attorney, was set to retire on Jan. 4, 2013 after 32 years in the position. He was being replaced by Lindsey Boon Brunette, who was voted into the position in the fall.

-- Loyal Mayor Dave Williams was seeking a second term in office after filing for candidacy in the upcoming spring election. Candidacy papers for other seats on city and school boards were being filed by many candidates in the weeks before the Jan. 2 deadline.

-- The Loyal School District donated $1,066 to the Loyal Food Pantry during their winter concert on Dec. 13. The funds were raised through the school’s annual Christmas Shop event that was held the week prior.

December 24, 1997 -- The Loyal City Council had voted last week to remove the city administrator position from their list of employee positions, and to pass the duties of that office on to the pubic works director. The position of city administrator had been created back in 1980 and there were no plans to bring the position back.

-- The Greenwood School District Board of Education was considering equipping its new high school building with at least one computer per classroom. The cost of adding the computers to every classroom would have been more than $310,000.

-- Specialist Lisa M. Cullen of Greenwood was among 300 U.S. Service members who attended the Korean-American Friendship Association Year-end Thanksgiving Celebration in Seoul in November.

-- A lack of adequate snow cover was keeping snowmobile trails in the central part of Wisconsin closed.

December 21, 1977 -- The Loyal Board of Education agreed to hold activities for the second annual Loyal Winter Carnival on school property on the dates of Jan. 21-22. The Board also voted to allow the sale of beer on the property for the duration of the festival. The event was being sponsored by the Loyal Jaycees and the Loyal Snow Angels Snowmobile club.

-- The Marfra Beyer Estate donated $9,500 to the Granton Area School District.

-- Winter weather was full of turbulent changes this week as unseasonable warm temperatures early in the week brought rain to melt a majority of the snow in the area. By the end of the week, four inches of snow had fallen to replace the lost snow.

-- The Loyal fourth grade class traveled to the Lowell Roehl farm on Dec. 15-16 as part of the “Food for America” program put on by the Loyal FFA.

-- A gallon of milk was $1.19.

December 20, 1962 -- The Loyal School District was to hold a Christmas program on Dec. 22. The program was to consist of music and skits with a Christmas theme, including “Christmas Aids,” “Bells and Clowns,”, “Rhythm Band,” and “Christmas Greetings in Many Languages.”

-- The Greenwood Community School was to end classes for the year on Dec. 21. Classes would resume on Jan. 7.

-- Boys parkas were $6.95 to $11.95 each.
