Local chapters send groups to National FFA Convention

The Loyal FFA had the opportunity to send eight of its FFA members to the National FFA Convention held in Indianapolis, Ind. On the way down, we stopped at ABS in Deforest, where we learned about the breeding process and how their genetics can impact farmers across the world. Our next tour was at the Broken Wagon Bison located in Hobart, Ind., where we got to see their herd of more than 100 bison. The tour included learning about the bison’s history, the farming process, and seeing them up close in their pasture.
Once we got to the opening ceremony, we listened to the keynote speaker, Tamika Catchings. She discussed the challenges that she had to overcome and how dedication helped her to get to the places that she is today. After that session, the Loyal FFA members made their way to the shopping mall and expo center where students could visit more than 300 exhibitors and learn about the different branches of agriculture. That night, we got the chance to see a rodeo, which replicates what ranch tasks look like. This included bareback and saddle bronco riding, and bull riding as well.
Overall, the National Convention brought more than 69,000 members, teachers and guests from across the country together. But, after the exciting few days together, it was finally time to go home. The Loyal FFA members who attended the convention would like to thank the school district, and the FFA Alumni for their support to allow us to go on this trip and gain experiences that will last us a lifetime.
Halle Aumann, Loyal FFA vice president The Greenwood FFA traveled to Indianapolis, Ind., for the National FFA Convention on Oct. 25-28. The students traveled to the National FFA Center to learn about FFA history, explored college, career, and technological opportunities at the FFA Expo, listened to expert keynote speakers and leaders, and had some fun as well!
We are so grateful to the Greenwood School Board for allowing us to attend this trip, our administration and teachers for helping the students be successful throughout their absence, and especially the Greenwood FFA Alumni for financially supporting the students on this journey.
