Genteman second, Smith sixth for L-G at Edgar invitational
The Loyal-Greenwood cross country team braved the cold, occasional shower and hilly course at Edgar’s softball complex on Sept. 27, with the girls team taking third place overall. The team faced a slightly smaller grouping of athletes at the course, finishing with similar times to when they competed the week prior.
In the 50-runner field, Summer Smith led the Greyhounds with a sixth-place finish, running a 22:49.9 for the placing. Coming through a few places and couple minutes later were Bailey Eckes and Leah Scherer. Eckes took 10th with a time of 24:16.7 and Scherer finished right on her heels at the 24:27.2 for 11th.
Also taking back-to-back placings were Katlund Etlicher (26:35.4) and Addison Holm (26:39.9), who came through the finish in 28th and 29th place, respectively. Finishing in 32nd was Aubre Robida (27:00.5), Maci Bogdonovich took 36th with a time of 27:42.4 and Halle Aumann placed 38th with a time of 27:53.8.
Loyal-Greenwood’s three boys ran in a 47-runner field. Out of that grouping, Connor Genteman took second place overall, running an 18:13.1. Cody Eckes took 24th with a time of 21:40.6 and Lucas Nielsen placed 29th with a time of 23:06.7.
The Loyal-Greenwood girls finished with 61 points as a team to place third behind Pioneer Westfield (47) and Edgar (46). Abbotsford was fourth (101), Pittsville took fifth (135) and Neillsville-Granton was sixth (139). Columbus Catholic, John Edwards, Mosinee and Owen-Withee fielded incomplete girls teams.
The Loyal-Greenwood boys, along with John Edwards, Mosinee and Owen-Withee all fielded incomplete teams. Teams placing at the Edgar invite were Pittsville (27), Pioneer Westfield (65), Edgar (75), Columbus Catholic (67) and Neillsville-Granton (103).
