kindergarten adventure is underway

The kindergartners are off to many adventures reading some favorite fairy tales and comparing different versions of each. Some of our favorites are The Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and The Three Bears, and The Three Billy Goats Gruff. They are enjoying making props and acting out the stories. We have many wonderful performers.

We have been trying out the activities in our various centers and playing with our new friends. We are getting used to the routines and making our learning plans for the day. We are also getting better at remembering how to do things “The Rocket Way” in our classroom, the hall, restroom, cafeteria, and on the playground.

The children are working hard on writing their first names with more lowercase letters. They are learning some important phonemic skills and beginning sounds for emergent reading. As you walk by, you will see the kindergarten students counting up a storm and writing their numerals.

In a few weeks, we will start our adventures with Jack and Annie in the most wonderful series of books called The Magic Treehouse. The Magic Treehouse series takes us all over the world and beyond during our kindergarten school year. We start with the time of the dinosaurs and move into the castle during medieval times. So much fun and learning happen in kindergarten with this series, especially the rich vocabulary we learn through background building. The kindergarteners’ writing and comprehension skills flourish during the year all while having so much fun on these exciting adventures.

We are eagerly awaiting our annual fall field trip to find apples and pumpkins, ride on a hay wagon through the colorful woods, and adventure through a corn maze. Another special time is learning about apples with Johnny Appleseed’s birthday approaching. We are looking forward to “jumping into fall”!

We are off to a great start and love our new students! It is going to be an amazing year!
