Loyal-Greenwood girls take third at Marshfield meet

The activities of the Loyal-Greenwood cross country team led them to Marshfield’s Wildwood Park on Sept. 3 where they competed over the weekend. With strong finishes from their athletes, the girls team was able to take third place at the invite.

Summer Smith once again led the Greyhound girls along the 5,000-meter course, taking sixth place in a field of 51 runners by running a 24:20. Maci Bogdonovich was the next runner to finish for the girls, placing 14th with a time of 25:34.5. Taking 16th place was Leah Scherer, who ran a 25:37.8 for her placing.

Also placing within the top 20 was Bailey Eckes, who ran to a 19th-place finish with her 25:48.5 time. Katlund Etlicher finished in 26:42.4 to take 22nd and Addison Holm placed after her in 25th with a time of 26:47.5. Rounding out the team’s finishes were Aubre Robida (31st, 27:16.1) and Halle Aumann (39th, 28:16.9).

The three runners for the Loyal-Greenwood boys also placed at Marshfield. Connor Genteman had the highest placing for the Greyhound boys, taking fourth as an individual with a time of 18:15.9. Cody Eckes finished about mid-pack in the 47-runner race, placing 25th with a time of 21:22 and Lucas Nielsen ran a 25:29.6 to take 39th.

In the small schools division, the Loyal-Greenwood girls took third place with 66 points, finishing ahead of Augusta (81), McDonell (139), Neillsville-Granton (151) and Columbus Catholic, Nekoosa and Owen-Withee which all fielded incomplete girls teams. Edgar took second (64) and Chequamegon won the girls invite with 27 points.

In the boys races, Loyal-Greenwood was joined by Nekoosa and Owen-Withee in not fielding a team. Neillsville-Granton took sixth (138), Edgar was fifth (116), Augusta was fourth (92), Columbus Catholic finished third (79), Chequamegon was second (59) and McDonell won the boys invite with 35 points.
