Eleven children from the Loyal and York Center United Methodist Churches gathered at York Center UMC from July 24-28, from 5:30-8:20 p.m., for a tropical adventure to the Islands without having to leave Wisconsin!

After enjoying some tropical foods in the Maui Chowie Beach Hut, the “tourists” met the Beachcomber and Kolohe in the O’Hana Paradise Bay Hot! Hot! Hot! Daily Skits- where they found a “treasure” and a lesson each time. Favorite Bible songs like “Do Lord”, “I Am a C-H-R-I-S-T-I-A-N”, “I’ve Got the Joy, Joy, Joy”, ‘’The B-I-B-L-E”, and “‘He’s Got the Whole World In His Hands” were sung in Sea Chantey Music.

Each night featured a different Bible story with an important life lesson in the Island Ports of Call that taught them more about the love and life of Jesus. In the Craft Area, wall hangings of The Lord’s Prayer, decoupage flower pots, stamped bookmarks, and seashore treasure boxes were created. They were able to release extra energy with some special island-style fun during Sandcastle Games. Traveling to the ocean deep to learn about underwater life with an exploratory activity in the Scuba Reef Room. Ye Old Pirate Storyteller told them a “whale of a tale” that featured Chip and Claire, in a Conley Twin Adventure called “Treasure On Esperanza Island”.

Our mission project this year was to help a local charity by collecting individual snacks, food, and money to help the Ronald McDonald House Charities in Marshfield help families staying there while their child is in Marshfield Children’s Hospital. The “tourists” were challenged to “make some noise” with their loose change and bills in the Noisy Can collection. During the week of Vacation Bible School, two large grocery bags and $115 were collected during the week (along with a special offering taken at York Center on Sunday). The YC Mission fund matched the amount for a total of $230 so that more gift cards can be purchased to help families in need at the House.

“Maholo” (Thank You) to so many people for their hard work and dedication to put on Vacation Bible School for the week- decorating the sanctuary and fellowship center, for the food donations, Darlene Cook for all the kitchen help, and the teacher leaders -- Nicki and Haven Peroshek, Breanna, Jesse, and Lori Rowe; Diane Schiller, and Joshua Zvolena for leading sessions.
